    3. In my recent posting re G. H. Hollingsworth, I mentioned that he served in my gr grandfather's Civil War unit - which is why I requested the documents in the first place. It was suggested that I pass on the information about his unit in case it is of interest to anyone doing research on Civil War units in the area. More detailed nformation about the unit can be found on the Benton County web site. In brief, it was a home guard unit know as Capt. Ayres' Volunteer Infantry. R. W. Ayres organized the unit and was elected Capt. in which capacity he served for a year. He then left the outfit when it was reorganized as part of the regular army and was know as Capt. Williams Cavalry. I don't have any further info on the unit except the little additional info I got from the Hollingsworth papers. When the original unit became a cavalry unit it was required that each man either supply his own horse or buy one from the army. Apparently, a number of men could not afford to do so and left the unit. This included Mr. Hollingsworth who was injured and had dependent family to try to help support. Williams Cavalry served throughout the war, but I don't have a history of the unit. I don't know if this will help anyone much, but I thought I would pass it along. Thanks.

    1. [TNBENTON] Re: [NCWILKES] The New Slave decendant/Slave Owner decendant Genealogy exchange site is online. HELP!
    2. Jackie
    3. Well folks, I did it. The Slave site I mentioned to you all a few weeks ago is up and running. To update those that missed the info I will repeat. I am a decendant of slave owners. In my records I am collecting I am finding a large number of records on owned slaves. In my delima of what to do with this info, that Im sure someone desperately needs, I came up with this solution....I have established a site for decendants of slave owners to post any records that contain the names of slaves. This will be a site where decendants of slaves can go find the info that many of us have in our databases. In many cases the only access they have to names of ancestors are in our records. It's a new site, and pretty bare at the moment so lets fill it up huh? I feel like it is the least we can do to help these researchers. I had a tremendous number of positive replys when I asked you what you thought, and the Lord has not let me forget it. I have daily reminders in my email from odd sources that remind me to get this thing going. So from this point on it is up to you all to help. The site is at the following link..... http://communities.msn.com/SlaveGenealogyExchange If you have problems joining the list, just drop me a line and I will assist you. 1. [TNBENTON] BLANKENSHIP's
    2. Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin Blankenship without much to go on. I found Calvin BLankenship married to Deliah on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WIlliam Blankenship and his wife, Pamela Jane. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!! Thank you!
