With regard to a nickname for Frances, the typical nickname, documented through several generations of my family, is Fanny. It fell out of favor in the early part of this century. In fact, I knew a woman who was a neighbor of my grandmother who was Fanny. Her actual name was Frances and she was in her 70's when I knew her in 1950. Subject: Windows 95 & 98 Y2K Computer tip You may think your PC is "Y2K" compliant and some little tests may have actually affirmed that your hardware is compliant, but you'll be surprised that Windows may still crash unless you do the simple exercise below. Easy fix, but something Microsoft seems to have missed in certifying their software as Y2K compliant. This is simple to do, and VERY important. Click "START" Click on "SETTINGS" Double click on "CONTROL PANEL" Double click on "Regional settings icon (look for the little world globe) Click on the "Date" tab at the top of the page (last tab on the top right) Where it says "Short Date Sample" look and see if it shows a two digit year format: "YY" Unless you have previously changed it will be set incorrectly with just 2 Y's. It NEEDS to be 4 Y's. That's because Microsoft made the 2 digits setting the Default setting for Windows 95 and Windows 98. This date format selected is the date that Windows feeds ALL application software and will not rollover into the year 2000. It will roll over into the year "00" Click on the little arrow button in the window across from "Short Date Style" and select the option that shows "mm/DD/yyyy" or "m/d/yyyy". Be sure your selection has four Y's and not just mm/DD/yy. Then click "Apply" Then click "OK" at the bottom. Pass this info on to your PC buddies. No matter how much of a computer guru they think they are this might be a welcome bit of information! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

A question about the photos posted to the Benton Co web site. Who are the TOWNSEND's? My e-mail message to Barbara Warren Shelhatl, the contributor, was returned undeliverable. barbara@guroo.net Do you have a better address for Barbara? Do you know these TOWNSEND's? Thank you. ARE THERE ANY MOORES ON THE LIST? THEY WERE IN BENTON CO. CENSUS IN 1870. I KNOW THEY WERE THERE 26 YEARS EARLIER, BECAUSE MY GRANDFATHER BENJAMIN WAS BORN THERE AND HE WAS 26 YEARS OLD IN THE 1870 CENSUS. WILMA MOORE SANFORD
I have just completed writing out the family history of the above-referenced names. Other names that are included are GIBSON, PIERCE, WHITE, MOSS, JET, SMITH, BRYANT, WIGGINS, YOUNG, ROGERS, PERKINS, BARTLET, LOCKART, MINTON, HORTON, GIBSON and heaven only knows I may have missed a few. The counties in TN include Henry, Benton, Montgomery, Stewart, and Carroll, that I know of. I know that everyone isn't on each and every list and I have typed this in seven parts to be emailed to all the lists or individually............what's your pleasure? For those of you who are on all the above-named lists, it's really going to overload your mailboxes. This note, alone, may possibly show up to you more than once. Drop a line....the majority will rule (smile) Hugs, Virginia in St. Louis
Doris, Thank you. I found out about Clarence's line last week when I went home to Camden for Thanksgiving. I discovered he was a cousin to my grandfather Claude Markham. I am hopeing maybe I can use Clarence's line to trace down the line of my gr gr grandfather Weston D Markham. I am hitting a dead end at him so far. Terry Markham --- "Doris M. The history of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church mentions new members in August of 1848: Mary NEIGHBORS, Matilda Priscilla TOWNSEND, and Lucretia TOWNSEND. Is Mary NEIGHBORS the one born 1823, married 1849 to George H. TOWNSEND, and died 1893? Who are Matilda Priscilla and Lucretia TOWNSEND? Thank you very much. Jan Broxterman jbinsure@nmia.com
The history of Pleasant Hill Bapist Church mentions Hezekiah FORREST serving as an elder. Is he the father of Hezekiah FORREST who married Sarah E. TOWNSEND in 1873 in Benton Co. Sarah E. is the daughter of Nathaniel C. TOWNSEND and Mary Caroline MARCHBANKS. Thank you. Jan Broxterman jbinsure@nmia.com
