I am searching the Smith family from Bedford County. They lived in the 10th or 11 district on the north side of the Duck River just across from the 18th district in the western portion of Bedford county. (Almost at the Marshall County Line) Mine is George Smith, son of John Smith. George had a sister, Martha and brother that I know of. Glad to hear that you are searching this family too. John apparently died around 1848 or so, as I have found records of the MAYFIELD family filing court documents for them to sell slaves of John's for the children. I don't know John's wife's name. Do you have more info on John or before him???? My George was in the Goodspeed's book, a very profitable stock trader. They sold land in Bedford County after they moved to ARK. They first went to Washington County, ARK and then back down to WOODRUFF County, ARK where George died in 1901. Martha lived until 1906. Their children stayed in the Washington Co. and Woodruff County areas both. Their daughter, Nancy Ann Smith, married W.A. Tucker and had two children, Mary Etta (My grt grandmother) and W. Richard Tucker. Still on the lookout for Richard. Lost him after the 1900 census in ARK where he was living with his uncle Robert Smith close to his grandmother, Martha Smith. Don't know what happened to him after she died. Would love to be able to connect this family. The dates are about right for our John but don't recognize any of the other names. Keeping my fingers crossed that we connect.- Cindy Stephenson Robertson -- Original Message ----- From: <Willoughbyj1@cs.com> To: <TNBEDFOR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 03, 2002 11:08 AM Subject: [TNBEDFOR] searching for smith's from bedford co > I am researching the Smith's from Bedford County. > John Smith b between 1797-1802 NC; d before 1850 in TN > Martha Smith b July 16, 1805 NC; d Aug 8, 1892 in Bedford County, TN; buried > ?Crowell Chapel Cemetery > > ch Wm H bc1827 m Martha A c1851( May 18, 1831-April 11, 1886 Crowell Chapel > Cemetery);d between 1863-1870 > Polly b c1826 > Elizabeth b c1830 > Hubbard/Harbert bca 1832; m Nancy A b ca 1842 > Malcome b July 23,1836 d Aug 16, 1913 buried Crowell Chapel Cemetery;m > Margaret c1865/66( Jan 20, 1829-June 20,1898 buried Crowell Chapel Cemetery) > Calvin bca1838 > * Joseph Yarbrough bc1837;m Mary Rains; d c 1890 Jonesboro, Ark > Ann b ca1840 > Nancy Jane bc 1842 > Isaac Dawson b ca 1845 > Arthur b c 1847 > > Joseph Yarbrough Smith (my ancestor) and William Calvin Smith, son of > William H and Martha, moved to Jonesboro, Ark area sometime in the 1870's. > Not sure who else moved there or why. I went through my collection of papers about my TN families last night. In the mid 1980's my mother and I were at the Fort Worth Library and had copies made of 8 pages in a book she found. I hadn't read these pages in a decade plus. It has at the top 1854 Bedford CO. and then dates and what happened in a court. I found names I did not know were my kin until the past 4 years and alot of other names. I want to go back to find the book, does anyone have any ideal what book my mother had the copies made from? If I can locate that book a and study it's contents I will share with yawl. I am thinking I may want to buy a copy. AM
