CHARLES GILLESPIE JONES He was born Feb. 12, 1803 in Amhurst Co., VA. which is near Lynchburg. He is of English lineage. At the age of 26 he and an older brother walked from VA to Maury Co. TN entirely on foot. In 1831 (Maury Co. TN) he married NANCY ANN MOORE from NC. They were the parents of 9 children: William Duncan, James T., George Washington, John Charles, Mary Elizabeth, Charles B., Silas Montgomery, Robert M., and Nancy Ann Jones. Charles died Jan 2, 1874 in Maury Co. and his wife Nancy died in 1892. Charles' other brothers who came to TN were Ellis who died in Williamson Co. and Willis who lived in Maury Co. Daughter Mary Elizabeth Jones (1839-1900) married Michael Cannon (1828-1907), nephew of Gov. Newton Cannon and Clement Cannon (donated land for Shelbyville's courthouse). Michael Cannon was the son of Thompson Cannon, born 1793 in Davidson Co., TN.
