For some time I have been studying a Stephenson family which lived in the vicinity of Beech Grove. James Stephenson (abt 1776-1833) married Sarah Hall (abt 1776-1843), daughter of John Hall in Garrard Co, KY, Sep 10, 1798. Sarah Stevenson is on the 1840 census of Bedford County, page 2. Her neighbors include Jacob Sick, William B. Gibson, James McMahan, (Sarah), Alexander Lee, James Robertson, and George Gill. Their son, Robert R. "Stevens" is on the 1840 census, page 4, next neighbor to James Hall and Jesse Hall. Other neighbors of Robert are Jesse Shelton, Hugh T. Montgomery, and Mary Sick. I have wondered about James and Jesse Hall, suspected they were also from the family of John Hall of Garrard Co, KY, but have failed to definitely identify them. Car
Carolyn, thank you for this food for thought, I'm not very familiar with these surnames in connection with my Hall's but there is a great deal that I don't know about them so I will keep all of this in mind while I am searching, after all Fergus Hall was living not so far away from your Stephenson's in the 1840 Bedford Co. Tn. census as was a Jesse and a James Hall, there must be connection between these Hall's. but I can only guess at this point in time.
