Bedford County List Members: There is a planned reunion of The Prosser Family of Southern Middle Tennessee. We are working out lodging details (with Country Hearth Inn) for those traveling and each party will need to secure their rooms. The date is set for October 4th and 5th. Plans at this time are for it to be held in Shelbyville at Polly Prosser Dodson's home on Friday the 4th and at The Hickory Hill Church on the 5th. The Prosser Family settled in Southern Middle Tennessee in The Chestnut Ridge area during the early 1800's. This area is where Bedford, Lincoln, Moore and Marshall Counties all meet. We are at the time putting together a program. Many of the "old" connecting surnames are: RICHARDSON, SULLIVAN, REDD, GOWAN, BROADWAY, PIGG, PETTY, BRENTS, CRESON, ROSE, BAGLEY, WARREN, JOHNSTON, NORRIS, MCNATT, LEFTWICH, DARNALL, WRIGHT, DAVIDSON, HESS, BURNS, EPPS, MCCAY and many, many more. If your early ancestors settled in the Ridge area in all probability there is a connection. We are contacting Pros! ser descendants all over the country. I will provide more as we get things together. We hope to see you there. Bobby Prosser prossergenealogy@comcast.net
Bobby, I'm interested in the JOHNSTON surname that you mentioned as being connected to your Prosser Family. There's a James Powell Johnston I've been trying to trace. He was born in 1858 in TN but I don't know where in TN he was born. Thanks, Kathy
Kathy: My great grandmother was Hepsie JOHNSTON that married Jonathan Edward PROSSER. Hepsie was the daughter of Howell JOHNSTON and Orpha NORRIS. Howell JOHNSTON was born in South Carolina, May 26, 1793 and died December 27, 1856. Howell & Orpha are buried in The Johnston Cemetery southwest of Booneville off of Waggoner Hill RD., in Lincoln County. I have not been able to locate this cemetery. I have not been able to locate a Powell JOHNSTON in my material. One interesting note Howell and Powell rhyme.
