    1. [TNBEDFOR] Suggs in Bedford

    3. Looking for the author of the below query, Joe Ryan, regarding Joseph Suggs. Also looking for any information regarding Mary Ann Suggs, whom I believe to be the daughter of Joseph Suggs and Mary Ann Parker. We know the family was from the Wartrace area, recounted from my grandfather's stories. Joe Ryan Tue, 23 Dec 1997 20:48:04 I'm trying to get a feeling for the topography of the area between Wartrace and Bell Buckle TN. I've been searching for my grandfather, Joseph Benjamin Suggs, who was supposedly living in the area during the 1860/65 war (too young to have been a soldier). Don't find Suggs in Wartrace in the 1850/1860 Censuses, but plenty in Bell Buckle. Family legend (my 84 year old cousin) says he came from Wartrace...I've been told that there is, or was, a Wartrace Creek that may have been in the area. If so, could he have lived near the Creek and still have been listed in the Bell Buckle 1850 or 60 census (at least his relations as I beleive his possible father Joseph J. and his wife, Mary, show up in the 1850 census in Bell Buckle living w/Joseph J's father, William age 82, and his mother, Suzzanah. In 1860, William's apparently deceased and his wife, Suzzanah, a widow, is living w/her older son, Neamiah and his family in Bell Buckle also. In 1860, Joseph J and his family have dissappeared (I beleive they went back to where their youngest son, Thomas, was born, Arkansas). However, Joseph J,etc., could have returned during the war as the legend has my grandfather, Joseph B. plowing a field in WARTRACE and some Union soldiers wanting to help so they could get the feel of a plow again. I was wondering if there was a way you could ascertain if there is a lady named, Mary Alice Suggs HOLDEN residing in Christiana, TN. She, based on the above story, could be a distant relative as she's supposed to be a decendent of Neamiah Suggs. This story concerning Joseph Benjamin Suggs was covered in Dick Poplin's column in the Shelbyville Times-Gazzette, the last being the column in the June 18th 1997 issue. Sincerely, Joe Ryan
