The only posiive information I have is that Barney Merrell was born in 1836 in Bedford Co. This is according to his CSA records. I do know that the family moved later to Lincoln Co. but do not know when. Barney died in Giles Co. in 1891. He was married to Sarah E. Harwell. They had 10 children. The youngest, Van Buren was My husbands father. We think his father was Jonathan Merrell He is the only one of the many Merrells at that time in Lincoln Co with the right mix of children in the census but the 1840 census in Bedfford Co showed a Jonathan Merrett but no Merrell Jonathan was born in 1796 in Rowan Co NC and died in Lincoln Co in 1850. He was married to Mary Polly either Chapman or Cooper. I have seen both But in the 1850 Giles Co census Barney was with his mother Mary but no father. ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THIS ELUSIVE FAMILY WOULD BE VERY MUCH AP! PRECIATED. Thanks so much you are wonderful Joy. My husband died last year at age 87.
