Mary Pat, I bet your child probably thought it was fun after you crossed on the ferry even though it was scary beforehand. It occurred to me that my grandchildren have never been on a ferry, and I think it would be fun and interesting to take them across a river on one, especially a major one like the Mississippi. Maybe there are two ferries -- one at Hickman where the road that ends at the Mississippi seems to pick up on the other side, and another one near Tiptonville (seems to me that I have seen signs for a ferry when I have been around Reelfoot Lake -- which is near Tiptonville), perhaps crossing to New Madrid, MO. Ferries all seem to be off the beaten track today, and apparently are mostly for the local traffic (with exceptions such as the Staten Island ferry), and I wonder if I could ever get my husband to take the back roads to do that. < grin> Thanks. Shirley
