Not yet. But I am researching that. I think that if I can find out if they were married in 1824 GA or TN, that would help me narrow the search. Do you have DAVISes in your line? John A. Bates had two wives, and the second one Elizabeth Davis was my ancestor. His first wife was Elizabeth Alford. They married in 1818 in Greene County GA. There is a marriage between them recorded there. A Goodspeed article on his son John N. Bates said that John A. Bates and Elizabeth Alford had three daughters and that she died "about" 1919. That "about" must have had a wide range, as Elizabeth would have either had to have had triplets or died much later. The same article says that John A. Bates married Elizabeth Davis in 1824. It failed to mention where. You can see that there are date issues that I have to nail down here. I need to find out when John A. Bates married Elizabeth Davis and where. I descend from Robert and Jane Gaston Davis through their son, Alfred Warren (born 1811) and Hannah Riddle Williams Davis. Alfred Warren Davis had 17 children, four of whom died but 13 lived to adulthood. The names of some of the girls are unknown to me. Perhaps one of them could be your Elizabeth. Robert and Jane Davis' first child, William Gaston Davis, was born 1794. Also, a son of Alfred Warren and Hannah Davis, James Carson Davis-born 25 April 1837, married Caroline Bates. Caroline was the daughter of Willis E. and Betsey Hancock Bates. Could these Bates be in your line? PS. James Carson Davis left Union County, SC and moved to Cobb County, GA. If they are all in the same family, perhaps some of the Bates were with them. You may find something in Cobb Co.
