Where could I locate a marriage record from 1857? The LDS site lists David Carlton Allen m America Jane Rainey Bedford County, 3 mar 1857. I found them in Missouri in 1880, the census indicates that America was born in Tennessee, David in North Carolina. Does anyone have any info on Raineys in Bedford County or could tell me where or if I could get a copy of the marriage record? These are my ggrandparents. Based on America's age in the census, she would have been born abt 1839. Thanks, Pat Nichols

Hi Pat, Mike has a good idea about searching some of the websites and you may want to. It is possible that the LDS record could have the wrong county listed. If you are sure they married in Bedford County, you should know that all marriage records dated before 1861 were destroyed in the Court House fire of 1863. So, since your record is from 1857, it probably doesn't exist in Bedford County. However, a descendant could have a copy or have a bible record. On one of my lines I was fortunate enough to find an original copy in with a pension application for Civil War service - this was at the National Archives (NARA) in Washington, DC. Good luck with your seach - and don't forget to search "Raney" as some of the early Bedford County records have that spelling. Pat- I am also searching for Raineys in Bedford County. Clabourn Prince and Harriet (Rainey) Prince were my husband's gg grandparents. All the information I have so far is Harriet Rainey, b. ca 1843 in Tennessee (per 1880 Bedford Co, TN census). Perhaps your America Jane and my Harriet were sisters?
