    3. Hello Cyndi: There was a Jack Wilson who lived on Chestnut Ridge when my Mom who would be 92 if she had lived was a child. He had a daughter who married my mother's uncle. His name was John Wesley Patterson or better known as "Wes". I think the daughter died when the first child was born but the child lived. However no one in the family has ever known what happened to that child. Also pure hearsay namely tales told by my grandfather who was a brother to Wes Patterson had tales of witchery and such connected to Jack Wilson. I have a cousin who lives right now where Jack Wilson lived. This has been something as a child that I remembered all down through the years. If you come across any info on the Wilson who married Wes Patterson would like to have it. Thanks and good luck. 3. Kathy: My great grandmother was Hepsie JOHNSTON that married Jonathan Edward PROSSER. Hepsie was the daughter of Howell JOHNSTON and Orpha NORRIS. Howell JOHNSTON was born in South Carolina, May 26, 1793 and died December 27, 1856. Howell & Orpha are buried in The Johnston Cemetery southwest of Booneville off of Waggoner Hill RD., in Lincoln County. I have not been able to locate this cemetery. I have not been able to locate a Powell JOHNSTON in my material. One interesting note Howell and Powell rhyme. 2. Yes, there are a few of us that really love the subject. Many others show a passing interest & then there are the folks that have no interest at all. I can't believe those folks are curious about anything in this life. Going to file your mail under Jacob Wilhoite Cousins. I am not really doing much research on Jocob's line for now, but can't tell when the notion will hit again. Need about 100 hours in the day. Don't have grandkids but we're moving in the right direction for that maybe. Wayne Austin

    3. I have the same problem! Can't remember it all. It is so interesting and I appreciate all who have gone before me. My daddy loved his family; he loved knowing where they were from, but mostly liked knowing what kind of people they were. He started researching in 1930, the year I was born. He instilled that love in me and, also, in my children, especially my sons. He was doing genealogy, before he knew the word. I home school two of my grandsons. I just do their grammar and their writing and some speech, too. Have to go. Twelve year old Ben is here. 3. Hello Mary: Hope by now you have found your Wilhoite info. Have you checked Moore County, Tn. I live in Al just across the state line in what used to be the country in NE Madison County. My grandfather, Abraham (Abe) Pinkney Patterson used to live with us all my life. He formerly was from Moore County, Tn. He used to tell us stories he swore to be true of some Wilhoite man. I was a child so I do not remember the details or what the stories were about or the Wilhoite first name. But just thought that might be a clue. Sometimes the smallest clues are the best ones. Lets hope this one pans out. However he was born in 1875 so it would have been long after 1813. However this would prove there were Wilhoites in that county during this man's lifetime. Best of luck. 3. Wayne, Don and I have been to one reunion. I am not sure which one it was. Jacob IV was so nice to show us all around. We tromped down through the tall grass down to the Duck to see the remains of the mill. Also, saw the old cemetery where Jacob and Amelia are buried. I think that possibly during the 1860-1870 period that there was not money for a man made stone and probably they just used field stone and those are long gone. My gggrandmother Susan Wilhoite who was married to Simon Peter Vess died thirteen days after the birth of her first baby, my great grandmother Susan Craig Vess/Speier. They must be buried along flat creek somewhere. I think there is a Holt cemetery there, but there isn't a stone for Susan Wilhoite or her parents, but I have wondered if they aren't buried there. I am wondering about your 1807 date. I thought that the first migration by Jacob Wilhoite was in 1813/14. Lewis Willis Wilhoite and Frances Moore Christmas were married in either 1813/14 and they came to Bedford Co. in 1819. I was wondering if Jacob I was on that 1812 tax list. I am, also, glad to meet a cousin. I think that it is so special that you could create an image of the old mill. One thing that is a puzzle to me is that I have no idea where my great grandmother was living after her mother died. I would assume that she lived with here grandparents Lewis and Frances Wilhoite. She was born in 1853 and her father remarried a Frances Joyner and they went on to have a family of four children, but she is not listed with him after that. She must have been Living with some relative. My grandmother was not a Wilhoite, but she loved her husband's people and she talked about Louis Wilhoite and Georgia Mallard Wilhoite. Their son was Clyde Wilhoite. I knew him when I was little. He was the Commandant at Columbia Military Academy. I don't know why she was close to them. Guess I need to check the census records again. Wayne Austin & Linda Black I know where you are talking about. You are right it is not clear from the history who is buried there. We don't know where Harris & Amelia are buried either. They died in the 1860-1870 era. We do know they lived also in Flat Creek Community the same as your Henry Willis Wilhoite. I suspect there are some unmarked graves in the area somewhere or surely someone would know about that unless the stones have fallen and are sunken below the ground. I don't have that much WIlhoite historical things. I & the county judge's wife of Madison County, TN started to gather materials for a book in 1988 but before I got very far into it Jacob IV came out with theirs and I pretty much stopped research because they had done a more thorough job than I had. But Wilhoite ws only to be one of the many surnames in that book which I manuscripted and then laid over here by my desk to age. I am glad to meet a Wilhoite Cousin. Did not know any were on the Internet. Do you attend the annual reunions? I have not attended one since 1991 myself. Jacob also took me on a tour of the old Wilhoite Graveyard and I took photos and also he showed me where the old Mill that Jacob I started in 1807 or so on the Duck River was located though it is long gone. The Mill Race is still there though. I am a graphic artist so therefore I built an image of the mill as I thought it would look from the photo layout. ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    3. Wayne, I am a descendent of Jacob Wilhoite's son Lewis Willis Wilhoite and his wife Frances Moore Christmas. I know that they lived on Flat Creek in Bedford Co. TN and Jacob IV took me to his Grandfather's place on Flat Creek where there two labs of concrete behind the house where apparently two people had died of Cholera or something. We should have kept looking when we were there. From whom are you descended? Mine goes like this Jacob>Lewis Willis>Susan Wilhoite>Susan Craig Vess> Alex Speier>Harry Speier. Thanks for writing. What other histories do you have on the Wilhoite family? 3. Hi Shirley, I looked in the cemetery book and did not find either Baxter listed. If you send the name of his wife, I can see if she listed. The Rev. Soldiers book by the Marsh's says that in 1834, Baxter was 74 years old and in 1836, he was living in Bedford County, north of Bell Buckle, near the Rutherford County line. He was born in 1758, died after 1836 and served the state of Virginia in the war. Have you checked in Rutherford County to see if he is listed there? I would love to help, but don't have much to go on so far. Kathryn <snip> My great, great, great, great grandfather was Baxter Ragsdale, Jr. Revolutionary Soldier. He is buried in Bedford County along with his wife and most likely his father Baxter Ragsdale, Sr. I would really like to know what Cemetery he is buried in and if he has a Revolutionary Stone. Thank you, Shirley Dreaden <snip> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Tax Center - online filing with TurboTax http://taxes.yahoo.com/
