Hi Jim, Unfortunately, I did not find a listing in the cemetery book for Enoch Head. Here is some other information that I hope helps: Bedford County Tennessee Wills & Vital Records from Newspapers Compiled by Helen C. & Timothy R. Marsh, Shelbyville, Tennessee Published 1996, Southern Historical Press, Inc. =============================================== Page 125 Bedford County Chancery Court Minutes, Page 215 James W. Head & others vs. Jesse P. Tucker & others James W. Head, Charlotte Head and Littleton Averett and wife Sarah. The two former are of Bedford County, Tennessee, the two latter of Rutherford County, Tennessee, files against Jesse P. Tucker and wife Elizabeth, Isreal Harris and wife Martha, and John A. Head, all of Bedford County, Tennessee, except John A. Head of Giles County, Tennessee. Orators stated that Enoch Head departed this life intestate in January last, died seized of land in the 8th District of Bedford County, where he lived at the time of his death. Charlotte is the widow and James W. Head and Sarah Averett who has intermarried with Litteton Averett, John A. Head, Elizabeth Tucker wife of Jesse P. Tucker, Martha Harris wife of Isreal Harris, and Mary Head, are the only children and heirs of Enoch Head. Also, that since the death of Enoch Head, Mary Head has departed this life having first made and published her Last Will and Testament, which was proven in Bedford County. (Date between 1840-1848). Kathryn, Thank you for your kindness, I needed to make sure it was a different Wells Line than my own. Does any one know of anything before the following record, I know early Lincoln Co land was recorded in Bedford: Land Deed Genealogy of Lincoln County Tennessee, Vol. 1, 1809-1818 by Marsh The state of Tennessee # 2038- by virtue of part of certificate # 203 dated 24th of March 1809 obtained from the commissioners of West Tennessee by William T Lewis and entered 2nd Sep 1809 by # 1750 There is granted by the state of Tennessee unto Abner Wells, assignee of said William T. Lewis, a tract of land containing 18 acres lying in Bedford County in the second district, on the south side of Elk River near the head of Mill Creek. Land borders a survey in the name of Abner Wells that includes his mill. Surveyed 12th Sep 1809 by James Bright, d.s. Registered 1st Dec 1810

Your best bet is to send for the death certificate and find out who his doctor was at the time of death. Check on Rootsweb for the TN State site and get the address in Nashville. My great great grandmother died 13 days after the birth of Susan C. Vess in 1853 (Oct/Sept.) . I was reading Susan Craig Vess (Speier's obit in the Nashville paper -1918) It mentions that she spent her young life in the Wartrace area before moving to Nashville in 1884/85. Her father, Simon Peter Vess married Frances Joyner. I would appreciate if someone would be able to check the 1860 census or any other records to see with whom she was living. Her father was a saddler. She married Alexander Speier around 1869 and they made their home in Wartrace until they moved to Nashville. I believe that they owned a general store where liquor was sold. I think that she was a Methodist. She prayed that her husband would quit selling liquor and it wasn't long after that the store burned to the ground. Maybe that was when they moved to Nashville and opened a general store there. Any and all help would be appreciated. Susan's grandparents were Lewis and Frances Wilhoite of Flat Creek.
Looking for the author of the below query, Joe Ryan, regarding Joseph Suggs. Also looking for any information regarding Mary Ann Suggs, whom I believe to be the daughter of Joseph Suggs and Mary Ann Parker. We know the family was from the Wartrace area, recounted from my grandfather's stories. Joe Ryan Tue, 23 Dec 1997 20:48:04 I'm trying to get a feeling for the topography of the area between Wartrace and Bell Buckle TN. I've been searching for my grandfather, Joseph Benjamin Suggs, who was supposedly living in the area during the 1860/65 war (too young to have been a soldier). Don't find Suggs in Wartrace in the 1850/1860 Censuses, but plenty in Bell Buckle. Family legend (my 84 year old cousin) says he came from Wartrace...I've been told that there is, or was, a Wartrace Creek that may have been in the area. If so, could he have lived near the Creek and still have been listed in the Bell Buckle 1850 or 60 census (at least his relations as I beleive his possible father Joseph J. and his wife, Mary, show up in the 1850 census in Bell Buckle living w/Joseph J's father, William age 82, and his mother, Suzzanah. In 1860, William's apparently deceased and his wife, Suzzanah, a widow, is living w/her older son, Neamiah and his family in Bell Buckle also. In 1860, Joseph J and his family have dissappeared (I beleive they went back to where their youngest son, Thomas, was born, Arkansas). However, Joseph J,etc., could have returned during the war as the legend has my grandfather, Joseph B. plowing a field in WARTRACE and some Union soldiers wanting to help so they could get the feel of a plow again. I was wondering if there was a way you could ascertain if there is a lady named, Mary Alice Suggs HOLDEN residing in Christiana, TN. She, based on the above story, could be a distant relative as she's supposed to be a decendent of Neamiah Suggs. This story concerning Joseph Benjamin Suggs was covered in Dick Poplin's column in the Shelbyville Times-Gazzette, the last being the column in the June 18th 1997 issue. Sincerely, Joe Ryan
