    1. [TNBEDFOR] Joseph Parker
    2. Margaret H. Dillard
    3. Does anyone have information on the life of Joseph Parker who settled in Bedford County sometime around or after 1830? He was born in South Carolina circa 1804. Also am trying to find descendants of his to include in a list of Parker descendants of Thomas Parker. (Thomas Parker>Isaac Parker>Isaiah Parker>Joseph Parker). Joseph was one of 7 children of Isaiah and Betsy Guyton Parker. Thanks, P. Dillard, descendant of Thomas Parker

    3. Margaret, I don't have any information, but was wondering if you have a tie in with a Sophronia Melvina Parker who married Charles S.A.J. Russ in Dec 1890. It would be interesting to know if there is more than one Russ/Parker relationship over the years. I would like to know which information is accurate on the John A. Bramblett, Jr. Goodspeeds indicates his birth to be in 1813. My records show his parents to have been married in 1813 with 12 children following; the first being born in Oct. 1814. With John A. Jr. being #9 I find it hard to accept that he was born in 1813. My records show him to be born 18 Aug 1831 in Georgia. I have the name of his wife as Louisa Clementine Culley with no other information. If you have more, please let me know. 3. Kathryn, You and Cindy have provided me with so much information I don't know what to start. I have my RUSS ancestry traced back to England in 1458, but it is this type of information I can use to document their lives and verify information as I continue my research. Many thanks to you both for your support. This has been the most helpful and friendly mailing list I've visited to date. Tennessians are just wonderful people! I'll still be researching in this area for some time, so I look forward to seeing you on the list real soon. Once again THANKS for all your help! My deepest thanks! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: DeShields Dashiell Dayshield Dashaiss McBride Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IhB.2ACI/299 Message Board Post: Joel DeShields and John McBride lived next door to each other in the 1830s-1840s in Bedford/Coffee County in Beech Grove, Tennessee. They lived at the head of Garrison Ford between Garrison Creek and McBride Creek. I believe John McBride (who we believe was a lawyer in Shelbyville but kept his farm in Beech Grove) and Joel DeShields family was united in the marriage of Martha McBride and William Jasper DeShields. I believe William and Martha, Handy, John, Elizabeth and an unknown older Brother left for Oregon in about 1835-1838. They stayed in Marion county Arkansas until 1853 when they continued the trip to Oregon. William lived his life in Oregon, Handy stayed in Arkansas and John we have lost track of (he worked for the Stone family one time in Carroll County, Arkansas). Elizabeth is not verified but may have went to Morrelton, Arkansas. I believe Josiah stayed in Tennessee. Looking for information on Josiah DeShields and Joel DeShields. I believe Joel's wife was! Charity and there was a daughter named Mary. I am looking any information to prove William, Handy, & John are Joel's sons and Josiah's brothers. If you have any information I would greatly appreciate it. I have the family line from Arkansas on and would be glad to share. I also have access to the Dashiell Family History which was printed in 1829 and is 3 volumes. I will be glad to share.

Bramblett, Jr. born 18-AUG-1831, Georgia and died June 12, 1905 in Bedford County. He married on January 21, 1852, Louise Clementine Culley, born and died in Bedford County December 05, 1834-June 25, 1903. I have info on their 11 children if you are interested. I went back to the Goodspeed book and verified his birth date and it is listed as August 13, 1813. Could very well be a typo (3's instead of 8's). 3. There are two RUSS families listed in the Goodspeed's History of Bedford County Here is the link to that page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~khopkins/GdspdBiosIndex.html Don't know if you are familiar with this book but it was published in 1886 and from what I understand you had to pay to put your information in it. Hope this connects you to your RUSS. are you familiar with the area they lived in - whether North south east or west sides of the counties. Sometimes if you know this you can search the township info sites for that area. Also, due to the Duck river in Shelbyville, many times they had to go to other counties to do some business because they couldn't get in to the courthouse area. So don't rule out the close counties to their area. The Bedford County Site has lots of great info if your not familiar with it here is the address for it. http://www.tngenweb.org/bedford/ Since his wife was born in Murfreesboro area you may want to check the Rutherford County site if you haven't already. http://www.tngenweb.org/rutherford/ Welcome to Bedford County. I think you will find it a very friendly site. We all work together to help one another. I have received lots of help so I am always happy to help another person. It's true, what goes around comes around. Best of luck in this crazy hobby we love. Cindy Stephenson Robertson

    1. [TNBEDFOR] Joel and Josiah DeShields - Dayshields - Dashiell - McBride
    2. Looking for any information on Joel DeShields who lived in Bedford County in the 1830-40s. His wife was possibly Charity. Believe his son to be Josiah DeShields (name spelled various ways on different census). Looking for Descendants of Josiah DeShields. We believe our family and Josiah's family are connected. In 1835-1838, William, Handy, John and possibly their sister, Elizabeth left for Oregon as the story was told. When reaching Arkansas, one of the brothers wife's was having difficulty with childbirth and it was decided to stay the winter in Lead Hill (then Dubuque), Arkansas and to continue on in the spring. The land was plentiful with game and the soil fertile and lots of springs and creeks. Land grants were obtained and Handy lived his life in Lead Hill area. William continued on to Oregon. John we believe lived his life in Carroll County, Arkansas. I have many documents on this families life. I would like to obtain proof that Joel is William, Handy, and John's father or prove he isn't. He lived next door to Elizabeth McBride in one census and William married Martha McBride who was the daughter of John and Elizabeth McBride. Willing to share information on these family lines and more. Just a note, if your family was in Bedford County in the early 1800s, be sure and check Marion County, Boone County, and Carroll County, Arkansas. I just made a trip to Bedford County and many of the names there on record are also prominent names in the Arkansas counties. 3. I'm new to this list and hoping someone familiar with the county can help in finding a record on the following marriage that took place about June 1897: Allen Houston Russ and Cleo Johnson Cleo, I've been told, was adopted by the Johnson family. Her obit said she was a native of Murfreesboro. I believe she was full-blooded or half Cherokee Indian. Allen may be listed as Albert, Alvin R., or Allie Russ. I've found him listed with these names from the 1880-1930 census, city directories, etc. He was from Bedford County, Shelbyville. Any help, suggestions, and/or guidance would be greatly appreciated! I'm working feverishly on a Golden Anniversary project for my parents. I'd like to get this information along with birth dates and their parents data as well, eventually. MANY THANKS! 2. I believe that index represents actual wills and estate papers on file in the Bedford Co archives, which is open each Wed at the Courthouse, from 8 to 12 am. There is going to be a Campbell story, which I think is pretty well researched, in the Bedford county Family History Book. Mention of the tome (above) which some of you must think is a figment of my imagination will undoubtedly bring on the question of "Hey, I sent money for that thing, where is my book?" Keep the faith. I don't know when it is going to be delivered, but we are definitely moving in the right direction. Carolyn In a message dated 7/28/02 8:42:31 PM, lac47@bellsouth.net writes: << Thanks, Lucy. Now my question to others on the website is where or how can I get a copy of the records listed for Banks A. Burrow 1876, Arthur Campbell 1870, William Campbell 1900, and C. W. Womack 7/31/1888? Resource Hi to my fellow Bedford Co. researchers: I was visiting Bedford County's northern neighbor - Rutherford County (at the TNGenWeb site that is) And to my surprise was a lady who has posted some fabulous information relative to Bedford Co. She has posted the following information (index format) - I believe she calls it "Marty's Bedford County Page": - Loose Wills for 1847-1890 - Loose Wills for 1890-1896 - Loose Wills for 1896-1912 - Shelbyville Gazette Obits, 1931-1935 - History of the Harris Family (very interesting and very early information on this family) The URL address is: http://www.tngenweb.org/rutherford/marthagail2.htm Or try this hyperlink (if it will work for you): <A HREF="http://www.tngenweb.org/rutherford/marthagail2.htm">Bedford Co. Information at the Rutherford TNGenWeb Page</A> This might be another case of where I am behind the "8-Ball" and almost everyone knows about this site except me. If so, forgive me and chalk another one up to a "LOL". Hope it helps some of you.
