Do you know anything about this Charity Parker, i.e. who were her parents, where was she born? I have a Charity Parker in my records. phd ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rexall66@aol.com> To: <TNBEDFOR-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 22, 2002 2:30 PM Subject: [TNBEDFOR] Re: Charles W. No- I wasn't able to find him in 1880 either, at least that I could positively identify as him (ie with a brother John M. who would have been 16 or 17 in 1880). I did find in the 1870 Census for Rutherford a J.L. Phillips, 33, with wife Jimmie sp?, 28, and sons Charles 9 and John 7. This family is not in the 1880 Census for Rutherford but did find a John L. Philips, 42 with wife, Verginie C. ,age 37 and Children John C. age 17 and dau. Kate, age 1 In Gibson Co. Have been told by some TN researchers that there was a migration of several Rutherford families to Gibson Co. about that time so possibly could be the same ones. The initial C is wrong for John but almost every Census I have looked at tI find miss spellings of names and or initials. Jimmie could have easily been a nickname for Verginie or Virginia. Charles would have been 19 at the time and may have been out on his own. Found a marriage of a C.W. Phillips and an E.A. Tollivar n Humphrey Co. in 1883 and there was a Charles Philups, (census spelling), age listed as 18, in Humphrey Co. in 1880 Census working on the farm of a family named Cooley. With all the various spellings and ancestors with wanderlust I have had a heck of a time trying to track them down. Thnx for your help. Rex Phillips- Dallas

I was unable to find him in the 1880 Census for Bedford County. Could he have been in a connecting county??? Do you know what area or district of Bedford County he lived in???? That may give you a clue which adjoining county to check.

Phillips with birth "Abt. 1861". My GGF Charles W. Phillips was born in Dec. 1860 which is about as close to 1861 as you can get, however, I have found no other data to corroborate that this is my GGF. My Charles w. had a brother John M. born in 1863. Charles married an Elizebeth ? in 1883 and in Dec. 1885 my GF, Arthur cleveland Phillips was born in TN. Apparently Chas and family and John migrated to TX in 1886 as the 2nd child William Tom was born in TX in Feb. 1887. After 4 more children born in OK, AR & TX, Eliz. died in 1901 and Chas. remarried to an Effie Byrd in 1902. They had 45 children, one in OK and the other 4 in AR where Chas. died sometime in the 1920's. Need ANY info as to Chas. parents name (both of whom were born in TN), Eliz. maiden name, Co. where chas. &/or John were born, Co. where Arthur was born or ANYTHING. Have been searching census data, death certificates etc. to mno avail for ove 2 years. ANY help! appreciated.
I am new to the list. I am researching the family of one of my maternal gr. grandmothers. Melvina Annette STEPHENS/DANE and John Henderson RIGGS were marr. 9 Apr. 1874, Steelville, Crawford Co., MO. Melvina is listed along with her father, James STEPHENS, siblings, and I assume to be her mother. Family researchers state that the wife listed in 1850 census is a second wife. 1850 federal census, Civil Dist., #7, Bedford Co., TN., Family #169: STEPHENS, James 42 Miller b. NC Elizabeth 24 b. TN (My gr. grandmother) The Marriage Certificate issue to John H. and Melvina A., in Crawford Co., MO., shows her name as Sapens(Stephens)/Dane. Research from MO., shows that her father died in abt. 1863 in Lawrence Co., MO. We believe there was a connection between the Stephens and Dane families, and that Melvina lived with the Dane family in Crawford Co., MO., prior to her marriage. I have found one DANE family in Bedford Co. Is there a connection? 1850 federal census, Civil Dist., #2, Bedford Co., TN., Family #140: DANE, Micajih 26 Merchant b. TN Margaret 23 b. TN Matt 1 b. We then spent the night at Murfreesboro and visited Stones River National Battlefield. Had I known then what I know now, I could have made a stop at the Bedford Co., Court House. So close. I look forward to learning more about Bedford Co., and hopefully someone can help me in my quest for information on my Stephens ancestors. Hello to My Fellow Bedford Co. Researchers: I just recently acquired one of the new "digitized" images of the 1930 census (from Heritage Quest on CD, $14.95 to members). The images for Bedford are all on the same "roll" as Anderson and Benton (T626-2233). How wonderful to have this information digitized on a CD (rather than microfilm). You can: easily scroll through the pages; you can zoom in and out (great for reading difficult handwriting), you can print it, etc. While I have not really gotten into the details of the census per se, I did make a quick index of the page numbers, what districts they cover, and if applicable, what towns are included. I thought, just in case it might help some of you, I have attached below the index: (previous pages are for Anderson Co.) Part 1 207A 214B 1st Civil Dist. Part 1 215A 222B 2nd Civil Dist. I am looking for the parents of Benjamin Kelley born abt. 1797. He married Millie Spearman. Millie had two brothers James Meyers Spearman and John Spearman who moved to Bedford Co. TN. abt 1820. Millie's Grandfather Benjamin Clardy and her Uncle James Clardy moved from Oldpendleton Dist SC to Bedford Co. TN. They were in TN by 1818. Benjamin Clardy was in Franklin Co. TN. when he died in 1823. On the 1840 census Benjamin and Millie Kelley are in Pickens County SC. I would love to hear from anyone with information on any of these families, that would lead to breaking my brick wall on this Kelley family. Thank you Becky

Oh my, Katherine, Thank you, thank you!!! You have confirmed what I believed and provided me with more info on my Jennings line than I had. Wow, I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate you taking time and being so generous to share this with me. Can you tell me what your source was? Carol I have the following information but it is not my direct line. Hopefully someone else on the list will be able to correct me if I state something incorrectly or be able to give more info. Fannie A. Jennings (March 20, 1863-December 01, 1944) is the daughter of Edmond W. Jennings (February 11, 1818 - November 20, 1912). She married first, on August 05, 1882 in Bedford County, W. Nancy is also buried in Madison Cemetery. Fannie and Don had two children: Vera Don Madison and Nanie Lee Madison. Fannie married second, David S. Curle (June 25, 1841-July 07, 1903) on March 30, 1896 in Bedford County. They are both buried in the Willow Mount Cemetery in Shelbyville. Edmond W. Jennings was the son of Robert Cross Jennings (July 30, 1789 NC - September 02, 1875) and Mary Word (March 11, 1788 VA - March 30, 1827). Robert is buried in the Reeves-Wheeler Cemetery in Bedford County. In addition to Fannie, Edmond also had the following children: William Marion Jennings (May 30, 1857-March 12, 1924) Wade H. Jennings (born Abt. 1859) Samuel H. Jennings (born Abt. 1864) Sallie Jennings (born Abt. 1868) I don't have a mother listed for the 5 children of Edmond but do have that he also married Elizabeth G.
