    1. [TNBEDFOR] Beech Grove, Tn
    2. Bedford/Coffee County/Rutherford County. It seems Beech Grove was a border area. My family came from the head of garrison fork on McBride Branch. They lived there before 1850 and their neighbors were the McBrides, Lawrence, Sorrel, Rayburn, and Jacob's. They may have share cropped for one of these families. Does anyone have a Joseph or Joel DeShields/Dashiell in their family records? Thank you, Reta DeShields Parton 1808 W Huntsville Springdale, Ar 72762 1-479-751-6947 rpsodapop@aol.com daughter of D W DeShields & Cora Irene Hamilton DeShields granddaughter of Dennie DeShields and Ruby Lee Austin DeShields gggranddaughter of John Wesley DeShields and Frankey Green DeShields ggggrandaughter of Handy DeShields and Nancy Womack DeShields

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IhB.2ACI/306 Message Board Post: Sampson D Thomas married Martha J. Watkins 17 Oct 1874 in Bedford Co TN. They are recorded in 1880 on the Bedford Co census. The household consists of Samp. 55 (VA VA VA), Martha 19 (wife) Maggie 3, Lee (female) 1, and Sallie 16 (dau). I believe Sallie to be Sampson's daughter by a previous marriage. The one year old daughter named Lee is my grandmother, Addie Lee Thomas. I think that this may be the same Sampson Thomas recorded in previous Bedford county census records who had a daughter named Sallie. However, there are discrepancies that cast doubt It is recorded in family records that Sampson D. Thomas died 2 January 1896. Recorded just below his name is Addie Lee Claxton and her death date 24 Aug 1909. . Martha Virginia Watkins preferred to be called Jenny. In records she is found as Martha V., Martha J, Virginia, M.J., and Jenny. After Sampson died she was married 2nd to Frank Murley, 3rd to Louis Massey, and 4th to John Lokey. I would appreciate any information on Sampson Thomas and/or Martha Virginia (Jenny) Watkins Thomas Murley Massey Lokey. They lived in the Shelbyville area but Jenny is said to have died in Florida...... Thelma Phillips

    1. Re: [TNBEDFOR] Hazel Cemetery
    2. Hazel Cemetery is a mile or so south of Bell Buckle on the west side of the Fairfield Pike. Bell Buckle is north of Shelbyville, toward Murfreesboro, and east off of U. S. 231 on Route 82. (Route 82 and 269 intersect there.) If you are to believe Goodspeed's History of Tennesse it's the third town of the County. What's your particular interest? Jesse Lynn

    2. Union City is in the northwest corner of the state of Tennessee in Obion County. about 300 miles from Bedford County. Only Cemetery that I am aware of there is Stovall Cemetery. Earliest graves are about in the 1850s. Sure they have an Obion County List like this one with someone that can help you. Wayne Austin Madison, AL

    3. Hi Ann, Union City is located in Obion County, TN. I did have a look in the Bedford County cemetery just in case you meant "Unionville" which is located in Bedford County (also in Dyer County, TN), but I did not find the names SIMERAL or BYRN listed. You might give the TNOBION mailing list a try. Yes, I know of the LETTs in NC & Alexsandra's writing. She is a "dynamo". This J. W. LETT is the only LETT I've found so far in Bedford Co. We figure he wasn't there for long, but long enough to have an interest in education. There are others found in early Carroll & Cannon counties, TN plus many with a first initial of "J". The search goes on. When I return to the local FHC next time, will copy the names of other persons who signed the petition. Since it's public info, trust it's "ok" to post. Later...

Have been there for generations. May be precursors to the Letts of Tennessee if you study migration patterns. Alexsandra Lett may be a source of info. She is also an author, often writing about her family in the area. The Sanford Herald could put you in touch with her.
