According to the 1880 www.familysearch.org census transcript, there is an M.H. HALEY, age 47; wife FANNIE, age 39 listed in District 18, Bedford. I went through all the pages in that district in the Ancestry census images and did not find the family. Can anyone check for me? Thanks, Pat

    3. Does anyone have anything on Ed Fletcher (born 1853) and his wife Matilda Wyninger (born 1855)? They show up in the 1880 census as living in District 1, Bedford, TN. I thought they were from Coffee County, but possibly they are from Bedford. I know who they are and their children (their daughter Tennie was my g-grandmother), but I don't know anything about their parents at all. Any help?

According to his Civil War pension application, he was born August 26, 1844 in Bedford County, TN. His parents were James and Saphrona. The family moved to Texas prior to 1850 by way of MS (a girl, Mary, was born there). They appear on the Jackson County TX census for 1850 and the Bee County TX census for 1860. Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated since I seem to have hit a wall. Thnaks in advance, Patti.

Have you met Rosemary Haskins Hollis who wrote a book on Benjamin Haskins? She gave me info that I didn't have on the Haskins, my grandmother was Nora Belle Haskins Gambill. All the info that I had on Rebecca was from family stories and so that has made it more difficult to find information. My mother said that Rebecca and Mary Josephine (Mollie) came to Oklahoma with Nora & Jesse and their family in 1907 and lived out their days there. They are in the family plot in Hollis.OK. Are you any relation to Dr. Sam Hopkins? I've heard alot about him and I know that the Haskins farm is still in the family. Rosemary didn't seem to have anymore info on the Battens either so that's why I asked for help.

The age is different than yours,`she is listed as being born in NC where Mollie's mother is listed as being born in TN and she is listed as "Single" where you would think she would be listed as married or widowed. But, these could be transcription mistakes. I would tend to believe that since we know Rebecca was buried in the Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Harmon County, OK, this listing is for the R. M. 3. The Haskins and Battens lived in the Wheel area which is on the county live of Bedford and Marshall county. I know I have deed records that show Batten land surrounds my families properties in the late 1800's or early 1900's. What research have you done so far on them? Have you searched the Bedford County files online? Where do you live? If you are close, there are still Batten's that live in the area. I will check my records and get back to you. I have the History of Wheel and the 18th District Book. I have gone thru and indexed the names in it and here are the Batten's: Jean Jean, Myrtle, and Sue Batten along with Shirley Haskins in a school photo from 1946 page 135 Johnnie S. There's more in quiries I'm sure http://www.tngenweb.org/ I searched and found the person I believe I have spoke with when I was visiting the area once or twice. he lives on the South side of the duck river, where Tucker's Ford is located and the Tucker/Hopkins Cemetery is on his land there at the back of the property. You may try calling him or writing him. James Batten 368 Laws Hill Rd Lewisburg, TN 37091 (this is in MARSHALL county) Phone: 931-684-4102 If you search for Batten's in Lewisburg, TN in YAHOO or other search engines for white pages there are about 7 or more that I found on a quick search. Please feel free to contact me directly at cndpooh@cox.net for more help if you like. I know it is frustrating but I think you need to try Marshall County because they were very close to the west side of the county and my great Aunt lived close to them and the county line ran between her house and the garden. So, check both counties. Do you subscribe to any online subscriptions? I use Genealogy.com and have access to several other sites. Happy to help if I can as I know it is hard going when you get into some of these rural areas. I have been searching this area since 1976 and been down there several times. LOVE IT. It is full of our family history. I am currently compiling a book from my great grandfather's log book from his store in this area in 1886 / 1887. It will be available for purchase later this year or early next I hope. I has some Batten's listed in it I believe. Good luck and keep turning those stones..... Cindy Stephenson Robertson
