    2. Hi, I think that is a wonderful ideal. I have the Deed book INDEX for the first 8 books out of Shelbyville. Maybe we could get a project going and put them on line. It is a start. You have to start somewhere with giving "Free" information. I am tied up at the present time, but will dig out the land deed index records. Do I have any volunteer who would type up a few pages? They are already typed, and were copied straight out of the land deed ledgers. The first book is NOT in Marsh's land deed book at all. Working the next couple of days, so I will be off line. Later, Marty

    3. Hi April, Sorry, but I can't answer any of your questions. Those are questions I am trying to find answers to myself, thus, my reason for trying to identify families from SC & GA that came to Bedford Co in the early 1800s. My JORDANs settled around Sinking Creek in Dist 18, as well. Thanks for responding and giving me some leads! :o) Sandra >From: PaperHeath@aol.com >Reply-To: TNBEDFOR-L@rootsweb.com >To: TNBEDFOR-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [TNBEDFOR] Recognize anyone? >Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 17:04:57 EST > >Sandra Lee, > >The Pearsons that you mentioned are mine. Part of her descendants moved into Cherokee territory in Oklahoma. Their last name was Terry and according to the research I have done the Terry family was the first family to live among the Cherokee in Craig Co Oklahoma. They lived in Big Cabin. 3. I have a Temperance Burlison who married Levi H. P. Taylor. They had a daughter named Temperance Jane born April 1834. Oldest son born 1828 Alabama so it probably doesn't work out. They were in Texas pretty early. I also have McDaniels. 3 instances. One married the daughter of Andrew Hamil of Bedford Co., NC and Haywood Co., NC. One was a second wife of James A. Blackburn of Anderson Co., TN and Blount and Jefferson Co., AL. One was the second wife of James Blackburn, son of James A. Blackburn - born in Tennessee, moved to Texas about 1840. According to my great grandmother, there is Indian heritage with my Hamils and Blackwells from Bedford and Haywood. 3. Bedford CO Cousins, I know there are a lot of us that have family from Bedford CO TN and the surrounding counties. What can we do to gather information about our families that aren't on the available records. I wonder if we can form a list """""AFTER THE 1ST OF THE YEAR''"""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of what surnames and years that all of us need help on. I know who my great grandfather's step brothers and sister's and his half brother and sisters married but I can't find his mother's Bird/Byrd family. If nothing happens health wise I would willing to help. I don't mean a roll call. Would this cause too much activity??? I know who I am looking far and I can't find. I am looking pre 1850 which makes it harder. 2. J.Cooper Walker
    3. Hello Bedford County...Havent heard anyone mention the Dixon, Coopers or the Warners. These are three lines I am working on. Mathew DIXON had several children, all born between 1805/1820, four of them married COOPER brothers and sisters , they all came to Ark between 1850 and 1860. The COOPER's were children of ZAcheus COOPER.. He was in the 1920 and 1830 Bedford census, Dist /#10, around Rover and the Enon Church. Mathew Dixon had a sister, Eunice, who married a WARNER. They stayed in Bedford County.. I think they were around Bell Buckle and WarTrace. Has anyone cleaned up the attic of the Shelbyville Court House?? The last time I was there, I was permitted to go up into the attic , there were loose papers everywhere, wills marriages, divorce papers, deeds, ect.. ( about 1997/99). I had nightmares about someone coming after me if I told ...LOL Is it even safe to tell now?... Later...Joyce

    2. Sandra Lee, The Pearsons that you mentioned are mine. I don't know that I have Jordans--at least I haven't connected any to my family anyway--but I can tell you my line was in Hunters Creek, Franklin County, Georgia between 1810-1815, then sometime before 1820 (on the census) they are found on Sinking Creek in Bedford County, TN. (A deed also refers to one being a citizen of Alabama, so they might have detoured from Georgia). The family was from South Carolina, but I cannot figure out which county. Before arriving in Georgia and after leaving SC I found them in Madison County, NC. Other names that they connect with are Harrison, Dobbs, Thornton, Thorn, and Yates. Where in Bedford County were your Jordans? Since you are researching their Migration I wonder if you can tell me what type of group they were with? Was it a Baptist or other religious group, or was it family members just migrating in a clump? Or did they all serve together and get land grants in similar areas? Any ideas? 3. THANK YOU BETTY FOR YOUR INFORMATION . My gr-gr-grandfather Zebedee Taylor born 1805 is the one who had a sister named Temperance Taylor and he named his daughter Temperance , I think it is an unusual name , just like my grgrgrandfather's name Zebedee athough it comes from the bible. Far as I know we don't have a Levi Taylor as of yet,but you never know. I haven't proved it yet but I was sent that Samuel Taylor's father was Richard Taylor and his mother was Ellen McDaniel no dates on either one yet.But my family came from KY,NC., TN., MO. and I think even some went to AL., AR., and OK..Are Indian hertiage came from the Grooms they were full-blooded Cherokee. Now I live and work in Rutherford County. I have been researching my family for 9 years. Since I got so involved with it, I bought a micro film viewer, and now I do a lot of searches from home, and the internet <grin> (what time I am not cooking, cleaning, and working 12 hour shifts in a factory.... My family always knows what I want for Birthdays, Christmas, Anniversary's.. I keep a list of "MICRO FILM WANTED BAD" on the side of the refridgerator. Ohhhhh and I have a daughter getting married in two weeks (in a Church Wedding... I don't know why she didn't elope... don't people still do that?) Before I get to bogged down with look up request, just which Coleman are you looking for? I think I should offer one look up at a time with my records. We could have a day a week I would offer to do all the "last names" with a paticular record. I have on file marriages of Bedford 186ish to 1900. 1850 census index and actual Census 1870 census index and actual Census 1880 census index and actual Census 1900 census partial index 1910 census (if you know the district) 1920 census (if you know the district) Loose Leaf wills 1847 through 1912 (I have some of these on file). I also have an index that goes to 1981. (I have just found the estate records at the Shelbyville Archives that tie in with these wills... They are not on micro film, and I don't know when I am going to have time to index them) I have Shelbyville Gazette Obits 1931 - 1936 that Charles Reeves will be posting to the Bedford Page soon... (just as soon as I send them) I have Bedford County Death Index records 1924 to 1936 (Charles Reeves is going to get on line soon) Last year at the archives in Shelbyville I copied an idex page to "DELAYED BIRTHS". I have found some of my family in these 4 boxes. (I only have 3 of them on file.. and did not put the parents names, but can do look ups when I go to the Shelbyville archive every other Wed) I have Rutherford County marriages in a data base1804 to 1851 then 1873 to 1907 (a lot of people in Bedford got married in Rutherford. But then the court house in Bedford kept getting destroyed.. so they had to go somewhere during those time frames) Hope this help some with know what I have. Later, Marty

    1. Re: [TNBEDFOR] Fletcher/Anderson
    2. HI Lisa, I am NOT showing an Ed Fletcher in the 1870 census in Bedford County. There are only two families Leander Fletcher age 26 male colored he does not have a child Ed (page 196/A) Grundy Fletcher age 55 male white(although the actual census looks more like lsuidz Fletcher (born TN), Ann age 48 (born VA). There was also a Wm J. age 32, Mary G age 22, Ellen M age 20, Charley age 11, and Daisy age 6 living in this household in Ward 6 of Shelbyville page 257/A There are 196 Fletchers in TN in 1870. I have a head of household list, but do not have the other census records for the counties. I do NOT show a marriage license for an Ed Fletcher in Rutherford or Bedford County during the 1870 to 1880 time frame. There are more Fletchers in Coffee Co, and in Rutherford County. I am not finding the name Wyninger in my data base at all, but then that is such a different spelt name.. the census taker could of spelled it anyway.. Winnager _______________ I show an A.J. Anderson married Miss Eliza E. Hamilton in Rutherford County on Oct 10, 1877. There are 11 (Male) Anderson marriages between 1873 and 1881 in Rutherford County alone. I did not find an A.J. Anderson in Bedford that would fit the time frame, and that had a wife named Elizabeth. This above was the closest match. On Anderson there are 27 head of households in Bedford County in 1870. I did not look up the Colored Race on the census... You did not specify it. My best guess is A.J. is Andrew J. age 14 and living with George Anderson and Mary C. Anderson. He could be a son of George although the 1870 census record does not specify relationships to the head of households. I would suspect George was married more than one time. A George M (could be W.) Anderson married a Mary C. Alexander Feb 15, 1868 in Bedford County.
