Hi Shirley, I don't have a clue about the origin of the name. I lean toward it being related to abstinence from alcohol. Most all churches had a Temperance Society in olden times. This lady was Temperance Robards Bledsoe, wife of Henry Bledsoe a brother of my gg-grandfather, Aaron Bledsoe. John

Marty you or someone can OCR that if you have a scanner and that will be much faster than typing. You will have to proof read it closely to be certain of accuracy. Wayne Austin
I would appreciate it if someone would educate me on what a bastardy bond was and why one might be needed and why there should be a witness. Thanks, Charlotte
Carolyn, As I just told another researcher.... my computer that has all my Tennessee info on it is acting icky today... so, I can't get to the info at the moment. This, the reason I accidently sent DEAN instead of NEAL.... frustration. 8>) If my memory serves me correctly, I believe there was a Flat Creek Baptist Church which Jeremiah DEAN formed after he split off from another church. This creek name and church were verified and written about in an old book. Since I'm not from Tenn, cannot help you. Maybe the creek name was changed with time; and I'm guessing it was down in the southeastern corner of the county.
Nancy O'Neal backed up Albert (Alfred/Allen) Hutson/Hudson and Elizabeth Wilson on a bastardy bond in Williamson County, TN in 1854. Al lived around Versailles, now in Rutherford County, TN, but always a near neighbor to the Bedford County line and the Rover community. I would like to identify that Nancy O'Neal, as she must have been connected to the family. I have never heard of a Flat Creek in Lincoln County. If there is one, I would like to know about it. I was born in Bedford County and now live in Williamson County. There are Flat Creeks (creeks and communities) in both those places, which sometimes causes confusion. The Nancy Neal I'm looking for was supposedly born in Williamson County and died January 1860 in Ballard County, KY. She was married to John M. Wray on March 23, 1848 in Williamson County, TN. I know she had six children with John M. Wray. They are: Mary J., Josephine., John R., Robert H., Samuel, and Bell. I don't know anything else about her. The Wrays lived around the Rover community. Mentioned in the Land Deed book for Bedford County. The Wrays are on the 1860 census in Ballard County, KY. So left the area before June, 1860. Hi Gang, I found the land deed records I had on file. These are only the indexes, but something is better than nothing. Since I organized a few projects on the Rutherford, I though I would offer to organize a few pages for Bedford. I cannot do all the typing.. so I will gladly take volunteers. These records have been typed, and are easy to read. I can run copies if we can get a group together that wants to type the pages and put them on line. When you know the page numbers it is a simple matter to get the deed office in Shelbyville to mail you a copy. E mail me privately if you are intrested in typing a few pages. I can organize the project and send the final draft to be put on line. I will be doing look ups out of these land deeds the next week or so. Anyone want me to look for a specific person? Grant Book 7 pages (Before Bedford Book A - 7 pages (1808 to Mar 1809) Book B - 10 pages (July 1809 - Jun 1811) Book C - 12 pages (June 1810 - Jun 1812) Book D - 13 pages Book E - 11 pages Book F - 11 pages (1817) Looks like about 71 pages (give or take a few) Later, Marty
