Marty, I missed whatever might have been said earlier about these loose-leaf estate records. Have they been published? I've been trying to find information on a Dolly Burnett, who gave her personal property as a gift to my g-g-g-grandfather Nathaniel G. Brown in Bedford County in 1835 (Lad Deed Genealogy of Bedford County). I can't find another trace of her and wonder if she died in Bedford and left a will. The children of Ann S. Fay inherited from the estate of her grandfather, Daniel Scales, in Williamson Co, TN. The marriage of Elizabeth Scales and Robert Cannon is on record in Williamson County (1822). That should serve as proof of the marriage, if that is what you want. (By the way, an Andrew Fay md. Sarah Dwyer in Wmson Co in 1823). As far as the actual record goes, all the available marriage records in middle Tennessee have been published. The Fay-Cannon marriage is not listed. But the Cannon family was educated and they had money. Chances are there is a family Bible somewhere if you can just locate it. Any help you can give me on my gr gr grandfather Patrick Fay and wife Ann, would be most appreciated. A lovely lady from Shelbyville, Bedford Co. sent me a picture of his gravestone in Old City Cemetery in Shelbyville and the inscription is most informative giving dates of immigration as 1837, marriage in 1845, death Aug 25 1865. I have conflicting names of wife, one account states wife as Ann Donnalon and another Ann Scales Cannon, daughter of Gen. Robert Cannon. I would so much like to find the marriage record informaion. Thanking you so much for your offer to help. The 1860 Bedford County census appears to be confusing to most people. There were two different census takers for the whole county. It appears the Goverment furnished some type ledger with stamped number pages (I call these the hard page numbers) One page had a number, the other was side was not stamped. Therefore most of us call it A & B page. According to my cheat sheet there are 277 pages to the 1860 Bedford County Census (or 554 pages). According to my notes there were 2,226 house holds. When the census takers went door to door, and recorded the families they ASSIGNED each house a house number, and also numbered their pages. At some point the census taker did not "leave enough pages" or left out some families and had to go back and add them. It appears he just pulled pages in the back of the ledger. Therefore when looking at the 1860 census, I have found it best to look at the House hold numbers and always try to allign them up. This is only the head of households mainly (In some house holds I added the whole family). If there was another person with a different last name.. I put the last name in "CAPITAL LETTERS". If the name was by initials, or you could not tell if the person was male or female, I added (M) for male and (F) for female. 1860 Bedford County Census - Dist 24 - Flat Creek District 24 - Flat Creek page 134 - (Hard Page 152/A) 1014 - 1014 - Anderton, John 30, Rebecca 26, Armay 80, Martha 25, William 12, Harriet 10, Winnie 9, Francis 8, Kate 7, Narciss 6, Martha 21, Ann 2. 1015 - 1015 - Elliot, Wm 35 1016 - 1016 - Hesnada, Jo (M) 40, 1017 - 1017 - Parker, Epps 30 1018 - 1018 - Roberts, Thomas 50, Price (F) 45, John 14, Natt 12, Allen 10, Epps 6, Elijah 7, Mary 6, Columbus 2, Richard 2. 1019 - 1019 - Kimbro, William 23, Mary 20, Martha 4 (cont) District 24 - Flat Creek page 135 - (Hard Page 152/B) (Cont) 1019 - 1019 - Kimbro, Thos Brinkley 4, Margaret 2. 1020 - 1020 - Prince, Asa 52, Tabitha 35, William 10, Riley 8, Matilda 6, Benjamin 3. 1021 - 1021 - Mitchell, Patterson 50, Mary 22, James 20, Joseph 18, Robert 16, Bates 14, Logan 12,Nancy 8, Elizabeth 4. 1022 - 1022 - Bennett, I.S. 50, Jinnie 40, Mary 20, Eliza 18, Thomas 15. 1023 - 1023 - Bennett, Ben 25, Margaret 20, Thomas 2, Hezhiah (M) 1. 1024 - 1024 - Bennett, Wm 23, Mary 22, Pinkney (M) 8, Robert 6, John 4, Jinnie (F) 2. 1025 - 1025 - Bennett, Soloman 26, Nancy 24, Heiziah (M) 10, Hiram 7, Polly 6. 1026 - 1026 - Buchanan, John 35, Nancy 34, Sarah 4 (cont), Distict 24 - Flat Creek page 136 - (Hard Page 153/A) (cont) 1026 - 1026 - Buchanan, Loranzo (M) 18, Goerge 16, Alfred 14, Sarah 12, Samuel 9, William 7, Henry 6, John 4. 1027 - 1027 - Brikley, John 45 1028 - 1028 - Holt, Lody 40 1029 - 1029 - Furgerson, Johny 23 1030 - 1030 - Furgerson, Daniel 35 1031 - 1031 - Furgerson, H. 50, 1032 - 1032 - Brinkley, Joseph 40, 1033 - 1033 - Rogers, V. 23, District 24 - Flat Creek page 137 - (Hard Page 153/B) 1034 - 1034 - Price, Pristley 50 1035 - 1035 - Prince, Lemon 1036 - 1036 - Harrison, John 1037 - 1037 - Welch, Nancy 40 1038 - 1038 - Harrison, Ben 22 1039 - 1039 - Anderton, Thomas 70 1040 - 1040 - Anderson, Margaret 50 1041 - 1041 - Anderton, Jemmie (F) 60 Dist 24 - Flat Creek page 138 - (Hard Page 154/A) 1042 - 1042 - Hudson, William (C) 31 1043 - 1043 - Crunk, Charles 29 JARNELL, Joseph 49 1044 - 1044 - Blanton, Jasper 34 1045 - 1045 - Philpot, Alex 45 (VA), Mary (NC) 1046 - 1046 - Hamilton, Levina (F) 55 (NC), 1047 - 1047 - Johnson, Mathias (M) 50 1048 - 1048 - Coleman, Jessie 42 SMINS, James 5 Dist 24 - Flat Creek page 139 - (Hard Page 154/B) (cont) 1048 - 1048 - GUTHERIE, James 7 1049 - 1049 - Floyd, James 27 1050 - 1050 - Reaves, Moses 30 1051 - 1051 - Floyd, Watson 38 1052 - 1052 - Kimbro, Mary (F) 40, 1053 - 1053 - Ferrow, Joseph 37, 1054 - 1054 - Bantin, Barton 40 (cont) Dist 24 - Flat Creek page 140 - (Hard Page 155/A) Cont - 1054 - 1054 - Howard, Jane 30 1056 - 1056 - Floyd, Elijah 60 1057 - 1057 - Bearden, Hugh 18 1058 - 1058 - Pearson, Chales 30 1059 - 1059 - Woosley, James 23 1060 - 1060 - Dillingham, Joshua 60 1061 - 1061 - Philpot, Barckly 30 1062 - 1062 - Cunningham, Martha 47 1063 - 1063 - Hurst, Benj 58 1064 - 1064 - Tucker, John 43 Dist 24 - Flat Creek page 141 (Hard Page 155/B) 1065 - 1065 - Rhea, John 32 1066 - 1066 - Shaphard, Joseph 37 1067 - 1067 - Hiles, William 28 1068 - 1068 - Farris, James S. I read about my Great Grt Grt Grandfather and his sister being under the guardianship of their uncle, John Mayfield, and he petitioned the court to sell their slaves since they were minors. It was about 1848 - 1852. Their names were George Smith and his sister Martha, children of John Smith. The uncle, their mother's brother I believe, was John Mayfield I think. Your help with this would be wonderful as I read it once and can not find it in any of my records now. I'm most anxious to find a land deed between James Neill and his son George Clayton Neill to establish the relationship. None found yet. Or between George Clayton Neill and one of his brothers which would establish the realtionship to James Neill. Is there an 1860 census available? Was she living with a Wilhoite family? I know that she was still in Bedford County. Her father remarried and he and his new wife, Fanny Joyner in 1870 and they had three more children. Any information would be appreciated. Mary Pat in AR P.S. Hi Kate, I will have a look through my Bedford County resources when I get more time, but I wanted you to know that I went to the Bedford County Historical Society meeting last night where one of the presenters had a photo of Civil War veterans in front of the Moore County, TN Court House. It was taken around 1913-14. Your Claborne Prince is in the photo. Please contact me personally if you would like a copy of the photo. Christopher and Phoebe Lee Landis had several children, two of which were John and Robert Lee. Robert married Susan Carter. John's son, Absalom married Nancy Carter, daughter of William and Keziah Tannehill Carter. When William and Keziah died in a house fire in Bedford Co. in 1837 (without a will), Robert was named administrator of their estate. Therefore, I have assumed that Susan was also their daughter, but have never been able to find any documentation. I know they had a daughter named Susan, but all records indicate a different date of birth. Can anyone help here? Verna Landers Millard
