    3. Checked Bedford County Cemetery Book and Marshall County Cemetery Book and found no Moses or Eliz. (Polly). There were a few Garrett's in Bedford County and a lot of Garrett's in Marshall County. Didn't notice any with dates as early as 1814 or before. You may try checking the Marshall County website on Rootsweb. Most of the Garret's over there were the generation after 1814 up to the 1970's. Good luck, Cindy Stephenson Robertson ----- Original Message ----- From: <leondaug@bellsouth.net> > > Message Board Post: > > I am searching for the gravesites of Moses Garrett and his wife Elizabeth (Polly) Garrett. Moses was allegedly buried near the Little Flat Creek before 1818 and Polly was buried there before 1845. Most of their children and siblings moved from Bedford County, and it is believed that these sites are possibly in a very small cemetery or on private land. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    3. My grandmother's family was from Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tenn. She was Mary Louise "Slucy" PRESSGROVE (1912-1970) and her sister was Harriette Eunice PRESSGROVE (1906-1986) Mary Louise married Claude Andrews LaVARRE and Harriette married Frank Pierce PROVOST. Their parents were Mary Adelaide "Mary Addie" THOMPSON (1878-1961) who my dad called 'Bah bah' (his grandmother) and Joe PRESSGROVE (1867-1939). Mary Addie's father was Thomas THOMPSON (b. 1850) and her mother was Eunice M. (Emma) RUTLEDGE and they were married 2/25/1875. Mary Addie's brothers (may not be complete list) were Thomas, John, Hiram, and Rutledge. In 1878 this was the family's business: "The firm of Rutledge & Thompson was established October 24, 1878. The firm is composed of John W. Rutledge, Jr., and Thomas L. Thompson. RUTLEDGE & THOMPSON are dealers in a general line of groceries and provisions in Shelbyville, do a leading business in the town. They were burned out October 22, 1885, and are now preparing to build a commodious brick building. They also deal in mules and fine horses. " Family lore has it that Thomas THOMPSON did not approve of Mary Addie marrying Joe PRESSGROVE, but no reasons were given, and it may be unfounded. Joe PRESSGROVE's parents were John PRESSGROVE and Harriett HAYNES, and his siblings were Viana, Rebecca, Johnson, and Lincoln. John's parents were Andrew PRESSGROVE and Anna BEESLEY, while Harriett's parents were John HAYNES and Elizabeth LARIMER (Larimore?). I've been working on other branches of my family, but I'm back to exploring this one. Happy to share the information I have-- Christina Auch mailto:theauchs@earthlink.net researching in Tennessee - PRESSGROVE~THOMPSON ~PROVOST~BEESLEY~HAYNES

    1. Re: [TNBEDFOR] BATES - cemetery, will/probate, obituary lookup
    2. John A. Bates and his wife Elizabeth Davis Bates do not seem to be listed in any of the books published regarding Bedford County, TN records. They are on the 1840 census. Their neighbors indicate that they either lived in District 9, which joined the Rutherford County border just west of the center of the county or they may have actually lived in Rutherford County. Some of John A. Bates' neighbors in that census never lived in Bedford County. It appears the Bedford Co census taker dipped into Rutherford County a bit. The neighborhood was around Middleton (now Midland) and was near the Rutherford County family of Jeremiah Odle and Patsy Freeman. It was not near the Coffee County border and so you can probably be assured that they moved between 1840 and 1850. Have you found the John A. Bates family in 1830? I cannot find them in Middle TN, but I don't have the East TN census.
