2. Hi everyone. I just finished indexing the "Minutes of Wm. Frierson Bivouac No 8 Shelbyville, Tenn. The book was published by the Bedford County Historical Society, Shelbyville, Tenn. It did not have an index. I felt this was too important a work not to be indexed so researchers could find their family. This group of Civil War Veterans started out as only the confederates. They assisted with applications to the veterans home, published obituaries for fallen comrads, and made sure the area military graves were decorated and services held each Memorial Day. They played an important part of their community. Although it was based in Shelbyville, it covered areas in the surrounding county and much information about conventions they attended. Check out the index and see if your family is there. There is many different spellings. Be sure and read NOTES first as this will explain more. There is also some deeds and wills which concern the McBride family. This is under the land button and the Frierson is under military. Here is our website: Rock Fence Genealogy - Main or http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jmwtlw/index.htm If your family came to Marion County Arkansas from any county in Tennessee, be sure and check out the minutes of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church. He married Sarah. There is no clear proof yet as to Sarah's last name, but there is very strong evidence that she was either Sarah Hodge or Sarah Wilson, since both Elzy and Sarah are buried in Wilson Cemetery just across the Bedford Co. line in Coffee Co. The Robert Wilson, Jr. family are the Wilsons for whom the cemetery is named. Robert Wilson, Jr.'s wife was > Elizabeth Hodge; she is a daugther of John Hodge and Sarah. Best guess at this point is that Elzy's wife Sarah was a sister of either Elizabeth Hodge or a sister of Robert Wilson, Jr. > > As I looked through my records checking all this, I found my latest research (from about a year ago) had turned up a further lead on this, but it was as to the identity of Robert Wilson. 3. Yes, there were a few families of them in Bedford County around that time. Mine is the other Smith family, George married to Martha. They lived on the north side of the duck river near the Marshall county line. They also moved to ARK in the late 1890's and their grown children went also. I will check my info to see if I have anything on your line. Good luck, Cindy STephenson Robertson >

She died w/no children and Joseph is shown living in Craighead Co, Ark in 1880 married to Mary Rains with 2 children. Some of his brothers moved with him to Arkansas but looks like the rest of family stayed in Bedford County.I know that Martha was on the 1880 census with a Milton Smith who fits the age of Malcome Smith. I was told that Martha Smith's husband was John Smith and died shortly before 1850. Martha died Aug 8, 1892 in Bedford County. I think she is also buried at Crowell Chapel. ANY info on these Smith's would be greatly appreciated! You can only imagine how many Smiths there could possible be!

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/IhB.2ACI/317.1 Message Board Post: TNGenWeb states the following: The History Of Bedford County's Name When the citizens of Rutherford County living south of the divide between Duck River and Stones River submitted their petition for the formation of a new county they asked that it be called Bedford. No doubt it was Thomas Bedford whom the people of the petition wanted the county named for. Mr. White's amendment provided a legal foundation for our knowledge that Bedford County was named for this man. Bedford was really Thomas Bedford Jr., because his father's name was also Thomas Bedford. The Bedford family originally came from Virginia, in Goochland County, where Thomas Jr.'s grandfather Stephens Bedford had been a justice. Thomas Bedford Jr. was the fifth child of Thomas Bedford. He enlisted in the Revolutionary War on February 5th, 1776, as a private in John Brent's Company, 4th Virginia Regiment commanded by Col. Robert Lawson. On December 27,1780 Bedford married Ann Robertson in Chesterfield County, Virginia. They had eight children. Their descendants are found mostly in Tennessee, Alabama, Missouri, and Kentucky. Bedford and his wife had intended to make a home in East Nashville. Bedford however decided to bring his family further south to Rutherford County. Certainly this Revolutionary War soldier, prominent in Rutherford and Tennessee affairs until his death, was a worthy man and one of whom Bedford County should be proud of.
