Carolyn...How are the books being delivered? U.S. Mail? Fed-EX? UPS? Other???
When I was growing up (1940s-1950s) there was a state insane asylum on Murfreesboro Road in Nashville. I think it is possible that those who had TB also went there. A lot of people died at home. One family I research had about a third of the family die from TB. The books were mailed sometime last week. As far as I know, all books have been mailed. I have tracking on the ones I mailed and many have been delivered, but it seems one load of books got to Memphis and are sitting. I will check every day. The State of Tennessee had for many years and until the 70's or 80's a T.B. Hospital, I think Middle Tennessee Tuberculosis Hospital, on what is now Hart Lane. Was then known as Ben Allen Rd.(between Gallatin Rd & Ellington Pkwy). The building has been remodeled and is used by the State for offices. The land consisted of several acres and today there are several large buildings, the T.B.I., Medical examiner and others. I do not know, but would not be surprised to learn, that some patients were buried on the grounds. First announcements about the book came out in the fall of 2000. We have been working hard, meeting on a regular basis and doing jobs we never imagined would have to be done. I don't think we could have finished sooner without some paid staff. But I'll admit I probably slowed down things by wanting everything to be perfect (it is not, but we tried). The reason the most recently ordered books were mailed first is that the historical society sold them out of extras they purchased. We were worried about getting behind with mailing and filled the orders as soon as we could. I hope you will have your book tomorrow. Does anyone know where a person may have gone if they had TB in 1895? My great grandmother, Mary Etta Tucker Stephenson, died of TB in 1895 near Wheel, TN. Have searched for over 25 years to find any info on her death. No burial or cemetery records found. Understand her husband went back years later to put a stone up but couldn't find the grave. She was married to Jonas Edward Stephenson. Her parents were, W.A. Thanks for being a great county to be involved with, Cindy Stephenson-Robertson p.s. So excited about all of these notes on how great the Bedford County book is, I can't hardly stand it. Wish I had been able to pick mine up in person. I ordered it when first offered so wonder if they have been mailed yet. I can't wait to see it. Thanks for all of your hard work on it. Cindy

I am seeing so many testimonials to the new Bedford County Book that I am thinking about putting some of them on a web site connected to the site that says there are still some for sale. If you would like your comments posted there send them to coley@flash.net with the subject Bedford Book It might help the society to sell more books!
