This is the story my dad has always told, also, so I believe that's correct. Forgot the site - - I'm real bad about this! LOL Reta <A HREF="http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jmwtlw/index.htm">Rock Fence Genealogy - Main</A> or http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jmwtlw/index.htm
Hi, Could you please send the web site. Also where can you buy the book? Thanks Donna
I have recently put the index to the Frierson Bivouac of Shelbyville, Tennessee on the Rock Fence Genealogy website. This Bivouac was the confederate veterans who lived in the Shelbyville area who made sure the cemetaries were decorated and that there was proper memorials for the veterans who passed. They also petitioned for people to be accepted in the local veterans home. Some local information, lots of names in various spellings. This book is/was available at the Shelbyville Library. That is where I purchased mine. I think I paid $8 for it. It is hardback. There is information on how to obtain lookups. If your family came from that area like mine did, be sure and check it out. Don't miss the Boone County and Carroll County, Arkansas burial association index also. This will give you when people passed away who were members of these associations and where they lived at death. Also, lots of school pictures from the Lead Hill, Boone County, Arkansas area. Hope this helps someone. Thanks, Reta
I live in California and have not received the book yet. I'm looking forward anxiously to its arrival; especially after reading so many testimonials of its worth!!! Hi, I live in Texas also and I have not received my book. I ordered the book when they first started collecting information. Carolyn...I haven't received a book either. I ordered first half of 2002. Is there any problem with my order? Thanks, Betty in Texas
Bobbye, We received a story from you, but no check. If your check was cancelled, send me a copy and I will send you a book. It is not in the book, except in the Shaw family story. As I recall, a black boy was accused of raping a white girl and was jailed in the courthouse. A mob surrounded the courthouse and finally burned it, but the prisoner was slipped out the back door and taken elsewhere. Carolyn, I ordered my book almost two years ago and I haven't received it yet. Thanks, Bobbye in Houston
Kathryn, first let me ask do you have a STEPHENSON in you line? That is the surnames I am interested in. However I have a friend who is a SHAW and PICKLE and he had a STEPHENSON but not enough info that we could connect. This friend or I should say friends, are a couple I have known for many years in Michigan. I now live in CA. This couple is just now starting to collect info and I started last year and we found this surname connection. What do you think? His, I believe great grandfather, was THOMAS PICKLE 1824-1901 Marshall CO married to ? STEPHENSON, they had 9 children. After she died Thomas married VIRGINIA SWENEY (SWEENEY) and they had 12 children. One of Thomas children by 2nd marriage was ZELLA PICKLE born abt. 1882. Zella married JOHN WALTER SHAW in 1900 who's father was COLUMBUS AMERICA SHAW. My great aunt was ANNA WRIGHT b abt 1851 in LCT and married SAMUEL T. STEPHENSON b abt 1853. Do you know if this Samuel could be related to the SHAW, PICKLE lines? Even if there is no connection can I send you email to this couple? Julia (Wright) Molitz Newport Coast, CA
Information to order a book is at http://www.geocities.com/bedfordcounty/book.html More than half of the books purchased by the historical society were sold in the first week. The book is just wonderful. Received mine today via US Mail and have been glued to the pages since. I do have a question. I couldn't find anything in the book regarding the burning of the courthouse in 1934 except it was a mob riot. Why did the people riot? If it's in the book, I apologize. Thanks...I'll be watching for the UPS truck.
My grandfather who died of TB was at home until he died. Only people with money in 1916 in Paducah, KY could go someplace to be treated and do not know if the public facilities were anything that anyone wanted to make themselves available to. A county nurse came to the home and taught the family how to care for him. Just another thought. Also Are you by chance related to the SHAW, PICKLE family of Wheel, TN.? I have just posted on the MARSHALL CO LIST about these families. I believe they may be related to my great aunt ANNA WRIGHT b. abt 1851 in LINCOLN CO. ANNA was married to SAMUEL T. STEPHENSON b. abt. 1853. On the 1850 LCT census they had JULIA b. abt. 1875 and CORA JANE b. abt. 1879. Julia (Wright) Molitz Newport Coast, CA

OK--Lisa's book was ordered some time back. It is not one I mailed, so Turner must have also shipped by US post office. In a message dated 1/27/03 4:23:21 PM, lisa.hall@pgnmail.com writes: << WOW!!!
