Hello great Listers, Would anyone be knowing if there is a published book or references that would lead me to finding local news and notices for and about Shelbyville, Bedford County, TN in the late1700's and the 1800's? Particular interest for me is the business section of town, and the Flat Creek area and human interest stories about the families of these locations. Surnames of interest; Thompson, Cannon, Fay, Scales, Coot and Hooser. Thank you so much for your time and interest, Betty from Massachusetts

John and Nancy Atkinson had a son named Gideon. He is probably the G. B. you found. My great-grandmother was Christina Katherine Atkinson who married William H. Clark. Hi Virgina, All of the MARSH books are in the history room at the Argie Cooper Library in Shelbyville. They do not circulate. Many other libraries in the area also have the books, TN State Archives, Manchester, Tullahoma, Lynchburg, Murfreesboro, etc. But, a new addition has recently been made to the Library in Shelbyville and can only be found there --- The Marsh Collection. The Marsh's have recently had their files/notes hardbound and donated them to the library. What a wonderful thing! As far as I know, here is a list of the Marsh Books for Bedford County (they did books in other counties as well): LAND DEED GENEALOGY OF BEDFORD CO.
