A Robert Leftwich received a grant to colonize a large area of land in Texas. This grant was from the government of Mexico, and was given to Leftwich in the early 1830s. He was connected to the Nashville Association (also called the Texas Association), of which Sterling C. Robertson and several other prominent Nashville residents were major stockholders. I think you know my line of Leftwitches, mixed with Stones and Hopkins and Higgins. My g. grandmother Sarah Leftwich Higgins goes back through her mother Francis Hopkins STONE, d/o Micajah STONE Jr. & Sarah Leftwich>> Littleberry LEFTWICH. Littleberry was born 1757 in Bedford Co, VA not TN. His father Augustine LEFTWICH 1712 Caroline Co, VA and died there 1795 married to Mary NORTH. They had issue of 12 and Littleberry the only one listed as where ( Bedford Co, VA 1757-1823 ). Littleberry married, 1778 Bedford Co, Francis Hopkins and they has issue of 7. Of which, Mary Polly married John Reece, Eglantine married Rev James Cole ( Primitive Baptist Church, Belleville TN ), and Sarah married Micajah Stone Jr. At this point we get to Lincoln Co, Tn as they both died there. > > The Stone line was from Bedford Co, VA and First I find to Lincoln was Micajah STONE Jr. His father , Micajah Sr. also came from Caroline Co, VA to Bedford. Micajah STONE Jr. m. 1801 Sarah LEFTWICH and had issue of 12. Francis " Fannie " Hopkins Stone married Owen W. Higgins 1824 in LCT and thus one of their 8 was ultimately my g. grandmother, m. to D. Following up on my recent posting about the history of School Land in Tennessee, here is an example of such land along the border between Bedford and Lincoln counties that was set aside in 1820: TSLA, Record Group 50, Early Land Records Records of the Second Surveyor's District, Survey 8392 State of Tennessee, Second District By virtue of a plat laid down on the general plan of the said district, agreeable to the act of the General Assembly, passed in the year 1806, and by several subsequent acts, I have surveyed for the State 640 acres reserved for the use of Schools, in Section 4 in Range 2 in Bedford and Lincoln Counties. Beginning at a large poplar, on the head of Rock Creek, running thence north 84 1/2 degrees East 320 poles to an ash in the head of a steep hollow, the waters of Cane Creek, thence south 5 1/2 degrees east 320 poles to two beech trees and a hollow, the headwaters of Richland Creek, thence south 84 1/2 west 320 poles to a large poplar standing in a steep hollow, the headwaters of the West fork of Rock Creek, thence north 5 1/2 degrees west 320 poles to the beginning, all the corner trees marked S. L., which is truly represented by the annexed plat. Surveyed 20 September 1820, John Thompson, Deputy Surveyor John Hopwood and Harry Harden, Chain Carriers
Does anyone know if Lebanon Church still exists? If Henry Pickel is buried in the cemetary near the church, perhaps he was a member of the church, and perhaps Martha C. Pickle was, too. I have been trying to determine how they are related. > > > #3 Pisgah Cemetery Located near Lebannon Church in 18th District > > > Sacred to the Memory of Henry Pickle who departed this life Sept 27, 1854 > > > aged 74 yrs & Rachel, wife of Henry Pickle Died May 1859 Aged 80 yrs. > > >

I hope I am not I hope I am not breaking any rules, but I do not know how to get this information to the people who need to know. I have bought boxes of paper over the years to obtain the info I wanted. That means I have a lot of information I do not need, but someone else desperately needs it. I have finally put some of these documents on ebay (4/23/05). I believe this lot is all from Green Camp, Marion County, Ohio. I believe they may have been papers from John E Kramer, Esq. Anyway, I have tired to put all names and info (no photos) of the documents on the ad. Even if you are not interested in purchasing the document. You might check my descriptions for information on the following surnames: McWheton, Gorton, Tompkins, Reid, Bartram, Porter, Shaw, Allen, Logue, Rilay, Schroft, Milt, Snyder, Kramer, Johnston, Raifson/Raison, Yeager, Rorick, Haney, Coffeman. I believe ebay keeps the ads on about a month after they are ended. All are sold under rpsodapop as seller. I know Green Camp is not in any of the lists I am sending this to, but these are the lists I am member of and I would hate to find out later, I did not share info with the people who needed it in our lists. If I have broke any rules, please delete this message and do not send to list. Reta Parton [email protected]
It's not jerry Waynce Cook's book but the book, The History of the 18th District has a listing for Martha C. Pickle in the1850 Census on page 16: Dwelling 99 Household 99 Jonathan Legit 41 NC Penelope 41 NC James M 21 TENN Richard C 18 TENN John C 17 TENN Henry C. 16 TENN Nancy M 14 TENN Mary Ann 13 TENN Robert F 7 TENN Daniel A 3 TENN Martha J. 1 TENN Martha C Pickel 18 TENN In another book Earliest County Court Records of Bedford Couhty TN page 107 October 1854 term page 328 G.T. Neeley admr. of estate of Henry Pickle, deceased. Jonathan Liggett and William H. Stephens, securtities page 112 1854 December Term Page 368 Commissiooners to lay off support to Rachael Pickle, widow of Henry Pickle, deceased. Interestingly enough the Bedford County Cemetery Book lists Henry Pickle buried in Pisgah Cemetery: On page 169 #3 Pisgah Cemetery Located near Lebannon Church in 18th District Sacred to the Memory of Henry Pickle who departed this life Sept 27, 1854 aged 74 yrs & Rachel, wife of Henry Pickle Deied May 1859 Aged 80 yrs. If they were in fact Martha C. Pickles parents, why did she live with the Leggits in 1854? Could have been a sister of hers. It may list the relationship on the actual census. Don, I also tried dealing with the Rail Road Co. itself & after all the offices closed and two or more of the rail roads merged into one and they destroyed records at that point. My husbands family worked for the Frisco here in Enid, OK. His gr. Uncle died in a derailment near Sand Springs, OK. in 1926. The R.R. Board also told me that Widows did not receive pensions/settlements in those early years. After the board was established and records kept then something was done to help widows and minor children. Harvey, Thank you for your reply to my email. Your grandpa and my g-grandpa may have been friends. I believe my grandpa was sent to Northern Alabama by the RR in about 1877 where my grandpa's brother was born. I believe he was sent back to Franklin county Tennessee to work where my grandpa was born in 1878. I believe he stayed with the RR right up 1920. Your Mother's RR book sounds like something I need to look at. Could you possibly give me the name of the Book, the Author, and the date Published? Thank you much.
