Ray, 84, became ill Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Hensley, at Sim's Spring, and requested to be carried to the home of his son, Ben Ray with whom he lived. Enroute he passed away before a doctor could be secured. Funeral services were conducted at Crowell's Chapel Sunday at 3 p.m., by Rev. A.D. Nichols, with interment in the Crowell's Church cemetery. Survivals are two daughters, Mrs. H.P. Locke and Mrs. Frank Hensley, three sons, Tom, Ben and A.C. Ray, a number of grand children and two great grand children. Shelbyville Gazette - Aug 16, 1928 - page 1 Child Killed By Electric Wire Last Sunday afternoon about 4 o'clock Eddie D. Ray, aged 15, was shocked to death by an electric wire belonging to Southern Cities Power Company. The tragedy occurred near Longview in the 10th Civil District of Bedford County. It is alledged that Eddie and his two little brothers in company with William Cook, were visiting Mr. J.R. Cook, and there had been a light pole burned and the Company was preparing to erect another pole. The wires were said to be low, and the boys were down at that point. Eddie, in some way came in contact with the wire and was instantly burned in a horrible condition, practically one-half of his body was burned and he died soon afterwards. The other children notified the father, Mr. A.J. Ray, who came at once and took the boy home and immediately summoned two physicians. Medical skill could not save him and he died the following evening. Eddie lieaves surviving him, his father and mother, five brothers, and three sisters. Ann, Yes, the family did live in Rutherford and also in Bedford. Most of the family went to Christian County, KY where they had many more descendants. Shelbyville Gazette - June 6, 1940 - page 3 Mrs. George Bragg Dies at Horse Mountain Funeral services for Mrs. Flora Lee Bragg, who died Thursday at her home in the Horse Mountain community, were conducted Friday at the Horse Mountain Church, by Elder Clyde Gleaves. Burial was in Horse Mountain Cemetery. Mrs. Bragg, who had apparently been in good health, suffered a heart attack Thursday evening that resulted in her death. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville and a woman of many fine traits of character. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Basco Edwards; and five sons, Sam, Clarence, Edward, Lonnie and Donnely Bragg, all of Shelbyville. ______________ Shelbyville Gazette - Sept 19, 1940 - page 1 J.L. Bragg, 66 Dies Suddenly Funeral services for J.L. Bragg, 66, who died suddenly at his home here Tuesday a.m. at 10:30 o'clock were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at a funeral home in Murfreesboro. Rev. E.J. Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Murfreesboro. Mr. Bragg was a salesman for the Murfreesboro Marble and Granite Works. Before moving to Shelbyville three years ago he resided in Murfreesboro and was a manager of the Marble Works. He was a native of Cannon County. He had been in declining health for several years. Surviving besides his widow, are one daughter, Mrs Bill Stanton, Corpus Christi, Texas; two brothers, W.J. Bragg of Woodbury and R.B. Bragg of Christiana, three sisters, Mrs. Robert Harris, Kittrell, Mrs. Ervin Ready, Milton, and Mrs. C.L. Shelbyville Gazette, Aug 3, 2001 Funeral services for Byron Wayne Cartwright age 88, of Shelbyville, who died this morning at Bedford County Medical Center, will be at 1;30 p.m. Sunday at Hillcrest Funeral Home. The Rev. William Cartwright and the Rev. Jon Bell will officiate and burial will follow in Willow Mount Cemetery. A native of Bedford County, he was the husband of the late Gladys Ann Wade Cartwright an dthe son of the late Jacob Thomas and Martha Jane Damron Cartwright. He served three years as a city building inspector, two and a half years as a city manager and two years as a mayor. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ann Cartwright Whiteside of Marietta, Ga.; a sister, Ellen Love Warren of Knoxville; two grandchildrena nd one gerat-grandchild. Shelbyville Gazette - March 7, 1940 - page 2 Will Melson Contractor, Dies Of Heart Attack Will Melson, 68, well known carpenter and contractor, died Sunday at 9:30 p.m. at the local hospital where he was carried after a heart attack Thursday when he was at work on the residence of Mr and Mrs. Holt Raby near Wartrace. Mr Melson had been in declining health for sometime but able to continue at work until stricken on Thursday. He enjoyed a wide acquaintance in this section having served as a county officer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alice Thompson Melson, three daughters, Mrs. Will Haynes, Mrs. Will Roberson, Mrs. Bob Suttton; five sons, Earl, Samuel, Clark, Verna Lee and R.V.
