    3. My ancestors, Isaac, Jr and Bethiah HARDIN (?) LaRUE are buried in the Round Hill Cemetery, said to be in Bedford, or Giles county. When I check GNIS I find Round Hill Cemeteries in Bedford, Marshall and Rutherford counties. Of course I would like to know which county the correct cemetery is in. But, I would like a better 'look' at that area between 1818 through about 1835. I am planning to send this query to all of the Tennessee county lists that I recently joined, so I apologize if you get this more than once. I know a few of the people (surnames) that did migrate with, or followed, Philip PHILIPS from Hardin Co. KY and so need to see if I can catch sight of where 'most' of the cluster settled in. I have a probable son, Isaac B LaRUE, wife and son in the 1820 Bedford census but no sign of his mother (his dad, Isaac died in 1818.) His mother inconveniently died before the 1830 census. In addition to the PHILIPS, there may be ALEXANDERs, BROWNs, and HOWARDs. Finding the cluster would be a big help in proving some other 'traditional' data handed down, without documention, from cousins now gone on. Thank you JoAnn ka7suz@concentric.net if you prefer to answer off list.

After 1834 (and it is after that date that most surviving Bedford TN court records start) this page says: "Circuit Court: (Heard cases of LAW -- where laws had been broken and guilt or innocence was to be decided.) Civil Cases include debt, divorce, assault. State/Criminal Cases include theft, gambling, fighting, murder, bastardy." Yes, I have seen records of the proceedings of bastardy cases in Bedford TN Circuit Court records, but most of my research in these records has been for time periods up to 1870. As far as I know, Bedford County did not have separate Bastardy Bond records. Again, at TSLA there is an inventory of all Bedford County, TN records that are on microfilm. You can find it on this link: http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/preservation/countymicro/bedf.pdf I do not see any separate Bastardy Bond records in that list. In my experience, the posting of bonds of this sort was noted in various court records, as were all of the early administrator, executor, and guardian bonds. If you e-mail me directly (carson@gscassociates.com) with more details of the time frame and names you are looking for, I can give you some more specific advice on which records to search. This page: http://www.tngenweb.org/bedford/library.htm has the locations and hours of some local libraries. 2) Bedford County has archives located in the Court House on the main square in Shelbyville. According to a post of the Bedford TN list in October 2006: "The archives ... are only open WEDNESDAY 8 AM to 12 NOON." 3) I have done most of my Bedford County research at the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville. This website has directions and hours: http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/ They have virtually all the early county records on microfilm along with various indices, plus they have a very helpful staff and a large collection of history and genealogy books and hard copy files containing contributed materials (such as bible records). 3. I have to agree but I also have to say that Lincoln Co TN list is great also. I could not believe the volume of replies that I got to my request for help with my Scott line. I am finally completing what I bought my first computer to do. I am putting all of my information into my FTM even though I realize it is an old version. In doing so I am finding more and more questions that need answers, doubting some things that I have so I must get help with that, but also finding many more things that I know is correct. I was on one list and was "dressed down" for all to see so I e-mailed the list owner privately. I also got several private e-mails from members telling me not to worry because the list owner was that way at times. Needless to say I later cancelled. The lists that I am members of are great but I have found that Bedford and Lincoln along with Grundy are all three good. I have not requested much from Melissa but she has been great when I did. I would recommend her to anyone needing information because she does a good job. 1. [TNBEDFOR] About the TNBEDFOR list people
    2. S. D. Gopalan
    3. I've just been meaning to take a minute and tell everyone on this Bedford County TN list that in my humble opinion, the people on this list are a breed apart from the other 30+ lists I subscribe to. I've been on this list for about 4 years now, and I can say this list has the most helpful, most friendly, most patient people of all the lists I belong to. So many other lists are overly populated by cranky, jaded, and dare I say it... snooty fellow researchers? One would think that since we all share a common passion of genealogy that there would be more of a desire to help others, offer tips, congratulate on accomplishments, offer support, share research, etc. But especially lately, I've been sitting and watching so many of the lists become places where new posters get put down or ignored, and long time posters will only interact with list admins or people they consider the 'elite of the list', if you know what I mean (the ones in charge of DNA projects, obit posters, lookup volunteers, etc). I've been downright embarassed by the behaviour of some of the lists I belong to. Hopefully I haven't fallen prey to that kind of behaviour yet, but I can't help but notice it when it winds it's way through the lists. And that's what made me think of this list. I don't post often, although I do often reply privately, but the times I have posted over these 4 years, I've never failed to receive a reply or a word of encouragement, and have gotten some great ideas and information. And to this day I remember how helpful Melissa was a few years ago when she went to the Bedford County courthouse and did some lookups for me and mailed me some copies which helped me a great deal. But even when I don't have time to post replies often myself, I read this list daily since most of my ancestors hailed from or came through Bedford County, and I absolutely want all of you to know that you are the cream of the crop of genealogy mailing lists. You all treat the people who use this list like family, and I've yet to see any rudeness or putting down of anyone who's new to family history research or doesn't quite know how to ask for help they might need. And even during the few times you've had to correct someone or give a negative reply, you do it in a polite way that doesn't intimidate or offend. If I were to make a judgement on Bedford County, TN just by the people on this list who have an interest in the county, then I would have to say that being from, or having ancestors who were from, Bedford County, Tennessee is a very good thing to be said about a person :) Enough mushy stuff from me then, I just had to let you all know how great you all are as I just finished my mailing list reading from other not-so-nice lists. Heck, I'd come visit you people here even if I didn't have ancestors from Bedford County, lol. Have a great summer, everyone :) Dawn
