Clinton Courier Feb. 26, 1976 Three Local Men 4 Die In Kingston Traffic Accident Two Oliver Springs Rt.1 men, Charles Ernest Breeden, 29, and Terry Phillips 23, and former Lake City man, Audrey Steve Patterson 23, of Athens were killed in a one-car accident near Kingston on U.S. Highway 70 early Sunday morning. One other passenger, Miss. Violet M. Jones 33, of Decatur Rt.2, was killed in the accident and a fifth passenger, Miss. Connie L. Crabtree 23, of Delano Rt1, was injured and admitted to Oak Ridge Hospital after emergency treatments at Harriman Hospital. According to state trooper reports,the accident occurred at about 4 a.m. Sunday as the car believed driven by Breeden, was traveling east about 300 feet west of the Kingston city limits. The car careened 150 feet along a guardrail leading to the Clinch River Bridge into Kingston, jumped the rail, going over an enbankment and slammed into a tree. The car 1968 Dodge Coronet, broke in half on impact and the top was sheered off. The occupants trapped inside the wreckage, were freed by wrecker crews and Roane County Rescue Squad member. All the fatalities were listed as dead on arrival to area hospital. Both Breeden and Phillips were residents of the Cove community near Oliver Springs. Breeden was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Breeden of Oliver Springs Rt.1. He also leaves two brothers, Johnny Breeden of Oliver Springs and Roger Breeden of Bulls Gap, a sister, Loretta Bunch of Clinton, and grandfather, Jake Breeden of Oliver Springs. Phillips, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips of Oliver Springs Rt.1, also survived by a daughter, Karen Phillips of Joilet, Ill., five sisters, Mrs. Sally Langley of Florida, Mrs. Inolue Gonzales of Chicago, Mrs. Dollie Lambert, Mrs. Alice Ferguson and Mrs. Christine Davis all of Oliver Springs, and five brothers, Sam Phillips of Clinton Rt.5, Charles Phillips and James Phillips both of Oliver Springs, Oscar Phillips and Robert Phillips both of Florida. Patterson was a native of Lake City, had been an Athens resident for only a short time. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Patterson of Athens, seven sisters, Mrs. Carolyn Eaves and Miss. Sue Patterson both of Athens, Mrs. Hilda Wilholt of Atlanta, Mrs. Nancy Hargorten of Chicago, Mrs. Shirley Sanders of Denver, Mrs. Charlotte Martin of New Orleans and Mrs. Rosalee Dew of Westland, Mich., three brother, Ronald Patterson of Sweetwater, Carl Patterson and Billy Joe Patterson both of Athens. Funeral services for Breeden were held Wednesday at Indian Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Bryson Pride, and burial was in church cemetery. The Phillips funeral was Tuesday in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs, and was conducted by James Price. Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery. Services also were held Wednesday for Patterson ay Old Salem Baptist Church near Etowah and with the Rev. Bob Kelly officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
