She was the wife of Houston Moore, a retired Anderson County highway department employee who died in 1975. She was a former employee of Magnet Mills, Inc and a member of Dutch Valley United Methodist Church. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing. A native of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Farmer Burress. Survivors include two daughters; Mrs Claude (Lorene) Wright and Mrs Frank (Margaret) Darnell of Clinton Rt 2; a son, James S Moore of Clinton Rt 7; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs Sue Braden of Clinton and Mrs Joe (Hazel) Ivester of New London, NC; and four brothers, Homer and Fred Burress of Clinton, Reece Burress of Chilhowee, VA, and Joe Burress of Rutherfordton, SC. Mrs Braden's husband, Jess R Braden, retired from the police department in the late 1960s. He had been with the department since the early 1950s. Mrs Braden, a native of the Granite Rd area, was a member of the Black Oak Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing flowers and feeding birds around her house. She had worked at Magnet Mills in Clinton when she was younger. Mrs Braden is survived by four sons; J T, Robert L (Bobby), Jack, and James (Buddy) Braden, all of Clinton; four daughters, Mrs Bob (Mary Nelle) Carden, Mrs Jimmy (Virginia) Irwin, both of Clinton, Mrs Kenneth (Barbara) Foust, and Mrs Tommy (Janie) Irwin, both of Andersonville; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at Martin Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev David Hanes officiating. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens on Saturday. Braden was chief of police for a year in the early 1960s and also served as acting chief. Although officially retired, Braden will be working two more weeks until another officer returns from police school. Braden lives on Granite Rd at Clinton Rt 2 and does a lot of farming. After working in the coal mines for 16 years, Braden worked on the construction of Norris Dam and later returned to mining. He became a guard at Oak Ridge in 1944 and served there until he came to the Clinton police force on Dec 10, 1956. Braden has been married to the former Ruby Moore since Sept 1, 1933. They have eight children ranging in ages from 38 to 24. They are Mrs Mary Nell Carden of Hillvale, J T Braden of Clinton Rt 2, Robert Lynn Braden of Clinton Rt 5, Jackie Braden at home, Virginia Ann Irwin, Barbara Sue Foust, and Wanda Jane Irwin, all of Mountain Rd, and James W Braden at home. There are 12 grandchildren. The veteran policeman is a native of Briceville and has lived all his life in the county except for a short time he mined in Kentucky.
