Beside his wife, nine of the children are left to mourn his loss; John L , Joseph W, Noah, Jerry M, and Columbus Harness, and Mrs Annie Vowell, are all living this place, Sgt T M Harness at Fort Monroe, VA, Robert Harness of VA, and Mrs B W Duncan of Parks, Oklahoma. Mr Harness was a devoted man to his family and had a kind word for everybody. It has been often said that he never did no one any harm. Eleven years ago he professed faith in Christ and since that time has lived as a devoted Christian. While we miss him and a vacant place is in our hearts which never can be filled, we feel that our loss is his eternal gain and if he could speak back he would say "come to me". Funeral services were conducted by Rev A Burress at the Baptist Church at Laurel Grove Dec 26. The funeral was largely attended. The remains were taken to Grave Hill cemetery for burial. A homemaker, Mrs Harness was a member of First Baptist Church, Briceville. She professed her faith in Christ at age 12 and was a devoted Christian and a faithful worker in her church and community. Mrs Harness was preceded in death by her husband, Noah H Harness; sons, Mose and Charles; and by her parents. Survivors include two daughters; Vaughn Harness Beach of Lake City, and Josephine Harness Brown of Clinton; six grandchildren and spouses; Loretta and R C Seiber of Briceville, Ralph M and Betsy Vandergriff of Portage, IN, Eva Grace White of Lake City, Marilyn and Charles Mancin of Lake Ozark, MO, W Sue and Bob Utley of Clinton, and William Noah and Linda Vandergriff of Gary, IN; 15 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Monday in First Baptist Church, Briceville, with the Rev Edwin Phillips and Dr Clarence Duncan officiating. Burial was in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
