More About Mandy Bunch: Burial: Beech Grove Cemetery, Anderson Co, TN July 8,1916 - Dual Tragedy At Petros A dual tragedy was enacted at New River in Anderson County Sunday afternoon, resulting in the death of Earl Dougherty, aged 21 years, and brother James Dougherty, aged 40 years. The killing was done by James and Luke Bunch who were officers and were attempting to arrest Earl Dougherty for bootlegging. James Dougherty, in trying to rescue his brother, snapped a shotgun which failed to fire. All four men then drew revolvers and a pistol battle followed, resulting as stated. The parties were distantly related and bitter feeling has existed for some time. The tragedy created much excitement. The brothers were buried in the same grave. James and Luke Bunch, who did the killing came to Clinton Tuesday, and surrendered to Sheriff Smith. The accused claim self defense. Pending a preliminary trial next Monday, the accused were placed in jail. Clinton Courier News - Mar 19, 1953 Teddy West, 58, of Lake City, was killed Monday about 3 PM by a falling tree while he was working in the woods near the Campbell County line cutting timber for pulp wood. A son, Virgil, who was with him at the time, narrowly escaped being struck by the same tree, which was cut down by another workman in the woods. West, a veteran of World War I, was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and a member of Fraterville Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife; Mrs Emma Bunch West; five sons, Vern of Cincinnati, Ohio, Vaughn of Cleveland, Ohio, Vester, Viredith, and Virgil, all of Lake City; five daughters, Mrs Virgie Pillman and Mrs Vada Poore, both of Cleveland, Mrs Vena Mowery of Beech Grove, and Virlie and Vivian, both of Lake City.
