Clinton Courier June 11, 1953 Body Of Briceville Marine Killed In Korea, To Arrive The body of Pfc. Clay Harness of Briceville Rt.2,who was killed in Korea April 2, 1953 is being returned to his home this week for funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Grove Baptist Church. Harness, who was in the Fifth Marine Corp, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Harness, who survive, as do four brothers, Clayton, Claiborne, Clifford and Cliff and two sisters, Airman 2/c Margie Hatmaker of Ft. Bragg, N.C. and Betty Lou Harness of Briceville Rt.1. The Marine, who enlisted March 6, 1952 had served only 13 months when he was killed. Before entering the service, Harness worked in Detroit and before that had been a student at Lake City High School, where he was on the football squad. The body will arrive at Lake City at 6:55 p.m. Saturday on the L&N and will be taken to the home.The Rev. Lee Phillips will officiate at the services at 2 p.m. Sunday, with Byrd W. Duncan quartet providing the music. The 663 A.C.& W at Briceville will provide a squad to handle the military services. Martin Funeral Home is in charge of the services.
