Mrs Daugherty was a member of Community Baptist Church and Daughters of America, Loyalty Council No 125. She leaves 81 descendants. In addition to the daughter, she leaves two other daughters; Mrs Arizona Jones and Mrs Bertha Armes, both of Oliver Springs; a son, Dewey Daugherty of Oliver Springs; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. Clinton Courier News - April 19/20, 1990 Dewey George Daugherty Sr, 93, died Wednesday at Parkwest Medical Center. Mr Daugherty had made his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Warren G and Ola Daugherty, at 208 Ann St, Oliver Springs, after the death of his wife, Dorothy. He was the son of the late James F (Jim) and Diniah (Maw) Daugherty. Mr Daugherty had worked as a coal miner, an AEC guard in the 1940s, and retired from the Roane County School System where he was custodian at Oliver Springs Elementary School. He was a member of the Victory Bible Baptist Church and of the Jackson Odd Fellows Lodge 54 in Coalfield. The family said one of his greatest pleasures was growing vegetables in his garden. Survivors also include a son; Dewey G Daughtery Jr of Wartburg; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mrs Milda Trail of Kingston, Arvena and Woodrow McGhee of Kodak, Martha D and Eugene Ramey of Morristown; a sister, Willie Braden of Oliver Springs; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Friday at Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs with the Rev Garvin Walls, the Rev Ellis Patterson, and the Rev Jimmy Lord officiating. Mrs Braden was a devoted mother and grandmother and was preceded in death by her husband, Gusta M Braden. She was the youngest and last surviving child born to the union of her late parents, James F Daugherty and Dinah Patterson Daugherty. Survivors: daughter, Marilyn Braden Gilchrist and husband, Howard "Gil" of Heiskell, TN; sons, Virgil W. Braden and wife, Sherry Walls of Lenoir City, TN, Gustin R. "Buddy" Braden and wife, Linda of Oak Ridge, TN; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends. Mrs. Braden was born April 14, 1909, in Oliver Springs. She was a faithful member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church and she retired from Union-Carbide in 1969, after working 27 years at the Y-12 Plant cafeteria. She was a member of several area clubs; Daughters of America, White Shrine, Eastern Star, Amerarants and the Good Neighbors Club. She enjoyed gardening, travel and several area senior citizens groups. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 1998, at 8 p.m., in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Smith and Pastor Garvin Walls officiating. Friends may call Saturday between the hours of 6-8 p.m., at Sharp Funeral Home. Burial and graveside services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., at the Butler Cemetery of Oliver Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Print Shop Bible Ministry, 115 Old Hen Valley Road, Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
