Clinton Courier Oct. 9, 1975 Marlow Grocer Dies After illness Howard E. Brock, 59, who with his brother operated Brock's Grocery Store in Marlow, died early Friday morning at Presbyterian Hospital from complications arising from pneumonia. A victim of rheumatoid arthritis, he had been unable to work for the past year and was admitted to the hospital Sept.29 with pneumonia and was moved to the coronary care unit as his condition became worse. He and his brother, Clyde Brock, had been co-owners of the grocery store, located on Marlow Circle, since the death of their father in 1960. The elder grocer, Sam E. Brock, founded the business in 1902 at a nearby building in Marlow and opened the business at the present site in 1915. Brock, who resided in Marlow all his life, except for the time overseas in the service, began working in his father's store as a school boy and returned to the business after World War II . He was stationed in England during the war and served as a quartermaster in the Army Air Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Post 172, Clinton. Beside his brother, he leaves his wife, Mrs. Catherine Johnson Brock, a sister, Mrs. W.L. (Helen) Crawford Jr. of Clinton, two other brothers, Fred Brock of Knoxville and Raymond Brock of Elizabethton. Funeral services were Sunday at Poplar Creek Baptist Church and were conducted by the Rev. Jack Hide and the Rev. Walter Hare. Burial was in Anderson Memorial Gardens.
