More About Louise Laura Carden: Burial: Disney Cemetery, Anderson Co, TN Notes for Hillard Moss Harless: Hillard Moss Harless Sr, age 81, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, Oct 22, 2000 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge after a short illness. He was born Sep 24, 1919 in Union County. Hillard received Christ in November 1958 and was a member of Clinton Second Baptist Church. He was a World War II disabled Navy veteran. He served as machinist mate/2C on the destroyer USS Reid 369 in the Pacific Ocean. The Reid was sunk by five Kamikaze planes in the Pacific. He aided in the rescue of fellow ship-mates during the sinking. While clinging to debris in the Pacific, he was injured when a bomb exploded in the water. he remained in the Naval Hospital in San Francisco for six months before being discharged. He received the Purple Heart and the Meritorius Conduct and the Bravery Under Fire Commendation. After his honorable discharge, he attended Nashville Auto/Deisel School and worked as an auto/deisel mechanic in the Anderson county area. Later, he retired from the Teamsters Union after driving a Jack/Cole Dixie Highway Transport for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Preceded in death by wife; Louise Carden Harless; parents, Jesse and Nerva Kitts Harless; brother, Robert Harless; nephew, Jesse Swanson. Survivors; daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Curtis Vowell Sr of Clinton; son and daughter-in-law, Rev Hillard and Lisen Harless Jr of Caldwell, Idaho; grandchildren, Lydia Harless, Curtis Vowell Jr, Nicholas and Travis Vowell; great-grandson, Zachary Vowell; sisters, Erma Lee Hill of Kingsport, Opal Swanson, Dorothy Sims, of Clinton; brother, Carl Harless Sr of Clinton; very special friend, Evelyn Duncan of Oliver Springs; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct 25, 2000 at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with funeral service following at 8 PM in the chapel with the Rev Hillard Harless Jr and Curtis Vowell officiating. Interment will be held Noon Thursday, Oct 26, 2000 at Disney Cemetery with full Military honors at graveside by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. After retiring he worked for several years as a deputy with the Campbell County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church of Caryville. Born in Anderson County on Aug 10, 1918, he was the son of William and Rose Foust Beach, now both deceased. A daughter; Rosemary Mayes, also died earlier. Mr Beach is survived by his daughter and son in law; Angel and Michael Foust of Andersonville; and two sisters, Bonnie Beach and Edna Duncan, both of Lake City. He is also survived by his granddaughter; Susan Mayes of Lake City; and three grandsons, John Michael Foust of Andersonville and Steven Mayes and Edward Mayes, both of Lake City. Betty Carden of Lake City is considered a special friend. The funeral will be held at 8:30 PM Thursday, Oct 15, 1998 in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Lake City. The Rev J.T. Leach and the Rev Larry Watts will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Friday, Oct. 16, 1998 at Ridgeview Baptist Church Cemetery in Caryville.
