Kingsport News, Kingsport, TN, 12/30/1977 Man dies in rockslide OLIVER SPRINGS (UPI) - A dirt and rock slide outside the DC&S Mining Co., killed one man and injured two others Wednesday. Authorities said James Ed Singleton, 46, of Oliver Springs, died in the slide. Benson Ruley Harness, 36, of Briceville, was taken to Oak Ridge Hospital in serious condition with multiple injuries and Leroy Phillips, 35, of Briceville, was treated and released from the hospital. Officials said the three were trying to build a canopy at the entrace to the mine and were buried by sliding dirt and rock. **************Start the year off right.
