My understanding of DNA testing is there are only two kinds of testing. A male can test his paternal line (father, father's father, father's father's father, etc.). A male or a female can test their maternal line (mother, mother's mother, mother's mother' mother, etc.) I don't think it's possible to test for any other ancestors because the DNA essentially gets too mixed together for all your other ancestors. Paternal line testing is possible because Y-DNA is only passed down father to son, never from the mother, and never with any mixing. Maternal line testing is possible because mitochondrial DNA is only passed down mother to child, never from the father, and never with any mixing. Is there some other kind of testing for Native American ancestry that can test for ancestors other than paternal line or maternal line? Jerry Bryan
