    2. ROCK FALL BRINGS DEATH FOR TWO IN STATE COAL SHAFT Briceville, Tenn. (AP) - A fall of rock in the Cross Mountain coal mine near here Wednesday killed two miners and injured two, one seriously. Mine officials identified the dead as W. G. Strong, 37, Lake City, and McKinley Hatmaker, 29, of Briceville. Hatmaker was a machine operator and Strong was his assistant. C. W. Henderson of Knoxville, president of the Cambria Coal Co., operators of the mine, said his company's engineering department and state and federal mine inspectors are investigating the accident, full details which had not been learned by early Wednesday night. He added that the accident is one that occurs in isolated cases when the weight of rock and earth above a section emptied of coal causes rock to fall without warning. Howard Dale, Briceville, was removed to a hospital at Knoxville, where his physician said his injuries included a multiple fracture of the pelvis. His condition was said to be "fair". Ed Moore, Briceville, was injured slightly and taken to his home. Henderson said the dead and injured were members of a crew of nine to twelve men.
