The Junction was right in the center of Knoxville. It was a "cloverleaf" style interchange where I-40 joined I-75. That section of I-75 is now called I-275. There was no I-640 in those days, just a short section between Clinton Highway and Broadway. Both major interstate highways met in the middle, along with most of the local traffic. The 40 / 75 junction cloverleaf style interchange meant that one had to exit in front of those trying to enter. It was a MAJOR mess, especially during rush hour. It was finally tamed a bit preceding the 1982 World's Fair.
