He had been ill more than a year. Silvey was reared in Roane County. He came to Clinton and was employed as a knitter at Magnet Mills for several years before beginning work at the school. He was a deacon at Black Oak Baptist Church, where services were held at 2:30 PM Wednesday. The Rev Delbert Payne and the Rev Creed McCoy officiated. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery. His late wife was the former Ida Phillips. He leaves two daughters; Miss Savannah Silvey of Clinton and Mrs Fred Burress of Marion, NC; a son, James A Silvey of Clinton; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
