She was a former Clinton Rt 3 resident. Born June 13, 1893, she lived most of her life in what was known as Farmer's Hollow, now the New Salem community. Her grandfather, William S Farmer, homesteaded that section of Anderson County and donated the land for the first New Salem Baptist Church. She watched the first railroad being built through Clinton and, along with her cousins, often sold vegetables and fresh buttermilk to the railroad workers. She was married to Mynatt Murray, a Clinton jeweler and civic leader, who died in 1935. After raising her seven children, she worked for Eastern State Psychiatric Hospital in Knoxville and retired in 1961. Mrs Murray was a lifelong member of New Salem Baptist Church and worked in the nursery and with Bible school. She enjoyed traveling and going on church sponsored bus tours. She also was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Murray. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law; Woodrow and Loujean Murray and R M and Myrtle Murray, all of Clinton, Leon and Jean Murray of Athens; a daughter and son-in-law, Bill and Ura Kelly of Dallas, Texas; twin daughters, Jean Foster of Knoxville and Dean Woods of Clinton; a daughter-in-law, Edna Murray; 20 grandchildren; 43 great -grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Tuesday night at New Salem Baptist Church. Burial was Wednesday (today) at Sunset Cemetery. New Salem deacons were pallbearers.
