"Joe" Stewart Jr., of Oak Ridge, Mrs. Margaret Ann Fitzgerald, age 75, of Somerset, Ky., previously of Oak Ridge, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Fitzgerald was born in Englewood, Tenn., on Aug. 23, 1931, to the late Albert and Mamie Sue Conner Collins. She loved her family, her home, and reading. She is survived by her husband, Donald Fitzgerald, whom she married on Feb. 6, 1948, in Ringgold, Ga.; two sons, Timothy Myers and his wife, Lynda Fitzgerald, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Daniel Collins Fitzgerald of Clinton, Tenn.; a daughter, Donna F. and her husband, Dr. Michael McBride, of Somerset, Ky.; one sister, Mary Jane Dysarz of Rockport, Texas; six grandchildren, Ian McBride, Sean McBride and his wife, Shelley, Ryan McBride, Sutton Fitzgerald, Seth Fitzgerald, Steven Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren, Madelyne McBride and Sage McBride; a sister-in-law and special friend, Martha Shelton, of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Goins. Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Ann Fitzgerald will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2007, in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Cheschire officiating. Internment will follow in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Schubert M. Miller; her mother, Marie Phillips, and her father, Marshall Phillips. Survivors include her sons, Dr. Jerry Prevo and wife, Carol, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jack Prevo and wife, Teresa, of Harriman, Tenn.; grandchildren, Allen Prevo and wife, Holly, of Anchorage, Alaska, Christy Mayes and husband, John, of Los Alamos, N.M., and Bryan Prevo of Harriman, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Brittani, Brittain and Braydin Prevo of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters, Carolyn Hatfield and husband, Leon, of Caryville, Tenn., and Roxy Stallings of Radcliff, Ky.; and brothers, Bob Phillips and wife, Donna, of Troy, Mich., and Paul Phillips and wife, Naomi, of Rochester Hills, Mich. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at the Holley Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services to follow at 8 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Jerry Prevo officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at the Sunset Cemetery in Clinton. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. Joseph H. "Joe" Stewart Jr., of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge following complications related to pneumonia. He was born June 9, 1929, in Danville Va., the son of Joseph H. Stewart Sr. and Florence Louise Harley Stewart. When he was six, his family moved to a farm located immediately outside of Gallatin, Tenn. His youth was spent working on the farm and attending school, graduating from Gallatin High School in 1947. He continued his education at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky., graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1951. He later earned a master's degree in chemistry from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1970. He began his employment in Oak Ridge as an analytical chemist at the Y-12 Plant, participating in many groundbreaking projects. He later transferred to the K-25 Gaseous Diffusion Facility, where he served as a supervisor in analytical chemistry for 10 years and enjoyed participating in a wide variety of program facilitation capacities. Following this assignment, he was requested to transfer to the Oak Ridge National Laboratory as a supervisor within the Analytical Chemistry Division, and served there for 10 years prior to his retirement in 1993. During his tenure at ORNL, he was the recipient of four Environmental Protection Awards; the Harlan J. Anderson award; the International Centre for Diffraction Data award; and the IR-100 award for a new type of automated high-speed analytical mass spectrometer that is now in industrial and medical use worldwide. He was also the author or co-author of several technical reports and articles in various scientific journals. Mr. Stewart enjoyed several hobbies. His long-time love for photography started in high school, where he took yearbook photos. He later enjoyed photographing family groups for holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries and served as photographer at several weddings. Through the years, his interest shifted to that of nature photography, becoming an annual competitor and winner in area contests such as the Anderson County Fair, Camera Club of Oak Ridge, Tennessee Valley Fair, Southern Appalachian Nature Photographers (SANP), several regional Kentucky park weekend events, and the Kentucky State Fair. He had recently received his first digital camera as a Father's Day gift and just begun using it over the Fourth of July weekend. From childhood, he was also an avid reader, and remained especially interested in learning about new methods in scientific instrumentation and space exploration. He was a long-standing member of First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge, during which he served in several capacities such as on the Ushers Board, the Stewardship Committee, and the Fellowship Nights committee. He was a 55-year member of the American Chemical Society (ACS), as well as a member of the Nature Conservancy and the Oak Ridge Institute of Continued Learning. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha Helen Garrison Stewart, also of Oak Ridge; a son Joe "Joey" Stewart of Corona, Calif.; a brother, Dr. William David Stewart of Gallatin, Tenn.; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren to-be-born this August: Rachael Lynn French, her husband, Thomas French, and children Adam and Aaron French, all of White Hall Ark.; Suzanne Nichole Owen, her husband, Josh, and son Logan, and to-be-born daughter, Landon, all of Benton Ark.; and Bryan Nicholas Stewart, his wife, Kristin, and to-be-born son, Heyden, all of Little Rock Ark. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Bill Mooney officiating. The family will also receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at the Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps funeral home in Bowling Green Ky., followed by a brief service to be led by the Rev. Troy Forrester. Burial will be held immediately following this service at the Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green. The family requests that any memorials be made in the form of contributions to First United Methodist Church, 1390 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge TN 37830.
