Brooks, 90, of Oliver Springs, Jean Laonore Bogert Culp, 88, of Oak Ridge, Jo Ann Gibson, 67, formerly of Oak Ridge, John Samuel Harper Sr., 57, of Clinton, John Edward Hitch, 73, of Louisville, Tenn., Vera F. Chambers, 65, a resident of Oliver Springs Ted C. Brooks, 90, of Oliver Springs, died on Jan. 29, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Knoxville. He was born on March 1, 1914, to parents Frank and Texas Wilson Brooks. Mr. Brooks was a Baptist. In 1981, Mr. Brooks retired from Union Carbide after 37 years of service. He enjoyed gardening, being with his family and friends, remembering old times and telling stories. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Brooks, Conda Brooks, and Jessie Brooks, and four sisters, Odessa Hudson, Anna Mae Andrews, Beulah Shultz, and Bertha Brooks. Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Beulah Kanipes Brooks of Oliver Springs; his daughter, Pat Seals and husband, Roland, of Oak Ridge; his sons, Jerry Brooks and wife, Janice, of Oak Ridge, and Larry Brooks and wife, Wilma, of Clinton; his grandchildren, Tammi Sharp and husband, Ray, of Oak Ridge, Todd Brooks and wife, Delece, of Atlanta, Ga., Mickey Brooks and wife, Jennifer, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Craig Brooks and wife, Jenni, of Clinton, Brian Seals of Alpharetta, Ga., and Tyler Seals of Oak Ridge; his brother, Chester Brooks and wife, Mary, of Oliver Springs; and his sister-in-law, Lena Ruth Brooks of Clinton. Mr. Brooks considered Randall and Pam Burchfield and Leola Smith Sexton to be his special friends. The funeral will be held in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, with the Rev. Garvin Walls officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the mortuary. An online guest book may be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com. Jean Laonore Bogert Culp, 88, of Oak Ridge, died on Jan. 28, 2005, at Briarcliff Health Care Center in Oak Ridge. She was the only child of Floyd and Katharine Allen Bogert, born on Sept. 16, 1916, in Dallas, Penn. Mrs. Culp lived in Dover, N.J. from 1946 to 1979, retiring and living in North Port, Fla., from 1979 to 2000. Mrs. Culp was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of North Port, Fla. Her hobbies included reading and writing poetry. She was a school teacher from 1940 to 1943 and had worked for the over Public Library in New Jersey. She had earned her bachelor's degree in English literature from College Misericordia in Dallas, Penn., in 1937 and her master's degree in English literature from Columbia, University in New York in 1938. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Morris Culp, in March 2000. Mr. and Mrs. Culp were married in April 1944. Mrs. Culp is survived by her daughter, Linda Culp Holmes and her husband, Jeffrey Alan, of Oak Ridge; and her grandchildren, Stefanie Lorraine Holmes of Chattanooga, and Sharon Christine Holmes of Oak Ridge. Jo Ann Gibson, 67, formerly of Oak Ridge, died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born in Little Rock, Ark., on Sept. 18, 1937, and grew up in Arkansas, Chicago, Ill., and Arlington, Va., where she graduated from Washington and Lee High School. In her college years, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority at the University of South Carolina. She raised three children, returned to school for a nursing degree, and graduated in 1981 from the University of Tennessee College of Nursing. Jo Ann began her second career as a nurse at Methodist Medical Center and rose to the position of Clinical Manager of the Critical Care Unit. She was actively involved in MMC culture, promoting seminars in acute care nursing and other Educational programs. She was an active member of the labor negotiation team. Mrs. Gibson was instrumental in helping to get MMC's open-heart program started and also supervised the design of the present-day critical care facilities. Following her retirement she enjoyed visits with her grandchildren and family. She was a Presbyterian. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle W. Hemphill and Louise Phillips Hemphill, formerly of Knoxville. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Heidi Schreuder-Gibson of Holliston, Mass., James and Laurie Gibson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Steven and Beverly Gibson of Knoxville; and her grandchildren, Claire, Chloe, Boone, Jesse, Cisco, Jenna, Dannon, and Sydney. The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in the chapel of Weatherford Mortuary with the Rev. Jack Sills officiating. The burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the mortuary. John Samuel Harper Sr., 57, of Clinton, died on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at his residence with his wife, daughter, son and daughter-in-law, Margaret, by his side. He was born on June 15, 1947, in Tazewell to Claude and Nelia Welch Harper. Mr. Harper was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Clinton and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a sandblaster with Allied Structural Steel Co. He enjoyed University of Tennessee football and playing cards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Della Christine Majors Paschal, and his dear friend, James Roberts. Mr. Harper is survived by his wife, Barbara Gail Webber Harper of Clinton; his son, John Samuel Harper Jr. and wife, Margaret; his daughter, Christina Ann Harper Crowley; his grandchildren, Ashley Nicole, Katelyn Diana, and Destiny Cheyenne Harper; and his father-in-law, Calvin Webber Sr. He is also survived by his brother, Ed Harper of Oak Ridge; his brother-in-law, Calvin Webber Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Clinton; his sisters, Wanda Tyree and husband, Paul, and Linda Elkins and husband, Monty; his sisters-in-law, Diana Webber Martin of Morristown, Jeanette Webber Arbaugh of Dayton, Ohio, Linda Buckley and husband, Randy, of Indiana, Susie Webber Bowen and husband, Ricky, of Blountville, and Shelia Webber Dawson and husband, Ed, of Powell; several nieces and nephews; and special friends who were like family, Bonnie Shoemaker and sons Aaron and Trey, Larry Duncan, Cecil and Elaine Hembree and family, Marvin and Tammy Hembree and family, Charles "Junior" Duff and wife Becky, Stephanie and Leslie Duff, Melvin Turner, Lester Cox, Shantina Poutre, Michelle and Shane McMillan and family, and Johnny Patterson. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with the Rev. H. Mack Smith and the Rev. Mike Thompson officiating. John Edward Hitch, 73, of Louisville, Tenn., died on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. Mr. Hitch was a member of Middlesettlements United Methodist Church. He was a consultant and past general manager of Mercedes Benz of Knoxville. He also was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the George Washington Lodge No. 181 of Louisville, and a Shriner. He is survived by his wife, Barbara "Jo" Phelps Hitch; his son and daughter-in-law, John Michael and Lesa Millsaps Hitch; his grandchildren, Jay Hitch of Louisville, April Morton of Louisville, and Brandi Costner of Louisville; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty Hitch Wilson and Gordon Wilson; his niece, Betty Wilson Quickel and her husband, Dan; his great-nephew, William Brooks Quickel; and his special friends, Chuck and Nita Jordon of Texas, Thomas and Carrie Bethea of Knoxville, Steve and Beth Wigley of Louisville, Bill Young of Louisville, and Faye and Harold Manning of Maryville. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in the chapel at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville with the Rev. Joe Black officiating. The burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, in Holston College Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home in Maryville. Chambers, 65, a resident of Oliver Springs, died on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at her home.
