It is just unreasonable that he could become a father at 82 yrs old. Mary would have been 47, not unreasonable, but I can't believe Elijah is his father. My theory is, he is a grandson of Mary German, or a grandson of Elijah & just raised by them. In the 1880 census he states Mary is his mother. Of course, he would state that, if she raised him.
