From the Knoxville News Sentinel 19 Feb 2005 AMERINE, ELLA "ALBERTA" JENNINGS - age 89, of Clinton BOWLING, EDNA RUTH - age 73 of LaFollette, Tenn., BROGAN, DVON - age 82, of Knoxville, MCCULLAH, MR. LUTHER - age 86 of Pioneer (Stinking Creek Community), OWENS, JEWELL K. WILLOUGHBY - age 58 years & 7 months, of LaFollette, AMERINE, ELLA "ALBERTA" JENNINGS - age 89, of Clinton died peacefully Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Williams-burg Villas of Morningside Assisted Living in Knoxville. Alberta was a devout Christian. She grew up and was baptized in Zion Baptist Church, in Claxton, and was a devoted member of Memorial United Methodist Church, in Clinton, since 1947. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and the University of Tennessee. She taught 1st grade at Scarboro Elementary School, and algebra at Lake City High School. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, H.G. Amerine, Jr.; sisters, Dora Herrell, Ruth Overton, Pearl Foust, and Maude Rhyne; and parents, Flora Johnson Jennings and James Frank-lin Jennings. Survivors: son, Larry & wife Nancy Amerine of Elizabethton; daughter, Judy & husband Jerry Russell of Maryville; sister, Mabel Vandergriff of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Kristine Amerine Carter & husband Craig of Johnson City, Jennifer Russell Walker & husband Lynn of Maryville, Jeremy and Jose' Russell of Maryville, Jessica Russell of Gatlinburg; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Matthew Walker, Elizabeth Carter; many nieces and nephews; special caregiver, Erma Burleson of Maryville. The family is especially grateful to Williamsburg Villas care partners, staff, and administration for all the wonderful loving care they gave Al-berta in her four years of living there; to Assisted Live-In Services of Tennessee for their special attention in providing assistance through the thoughtful care of Mary Wilson, Nancy Seals, and Jeanette Lawson; to Baptist Hospice for their counsel and care, especially Heidi Wilson, Denise Bisch, and Phil Gross; and to the pastors and church family of Memorial United Methodist Church who loved and cared for her for many years. Alberta's burial will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, February 20, 2005 at Sunset Cemetery. The family will re-ceive friends from 2:30-3:00 PM, at Memorial United Methodist Church in Clinton with a memorial service following, Rev. Don Thomas and Dr. Jerry Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Memorial United Methodist Church, 323 North Main Street, Clinton, TN 37716; or Alzheimer's Association, 2200 Sutherland Ave., Portland Building, Suite H102, Knoxville, TN 37919. BOWLING, EDNA RUTH - age 73 of LaFollette, Tenn., passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville. She was born October 12, 1931 in Loudon County. She was a member of the East LaFollette Wesleyn Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ross Weldon & Zelma Rebecca Baker Bowling; brothers, Virgil Bowling and Ted Bowling. Survivors: brother, Joe Bowling, Indianapolis, Ind.; sisters, Margaret Bowling, Knoxville, Wanda Bowling, Knoxville; special friends, Gladys McCulley, LaFollette and Garrett Jones, LaFollette. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Hatmaker Funeral Home. Funeral service 8 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005 in the Chapel of the Hatmaker Funeral Home with Dr. Marlin Hotle and Rev. Dave Gresser officiating. BROGAN, DVON - age 82, of Knoxville, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and had worked at Union Carbide for 35 years. He had formerly served on the Board of Directors of the ORNL Credit Union and the Volunteer Rifle Club. He was a longtime instructor for the TWRA's Hunter Safety Program. He served in the Navy during World War II. Preceded in death by his parents, Will and Ethus Brogan; sister, Bethel Dalton; and brother, Malcolm Brogan. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Brogan; daughter & son-in-law, Cathy and Jeff Elliott of Knoxville; grandchildren, Andrew & Ethan Elliott of Knoxville; sisters, Mackie Collins and Joann Weaver of Knoxville; brother, Willard Brogan and wife, Ajha of Tazewell; brothers & sisters-in-law from Minnesota and several nieces & nephews. The family will receive friends 2-4:00 P.M. Sunday followed by a service at 4:00 P.M. at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Father Xavier Mankel officiating. Arrangements provided by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel. MCCULLAH, MR. LUTHER - age 86 of Pioneer (Stinking Creek Community), passed away Friday morning February 18, 2005. Luther was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Luther was born and raised on Stinking Creek. He owned and operated Luther McCullah Coal Company for over 30 years. He loved working with his garden, apple trees, and blueberries. He attended Stanfield Church of God. He is preceded in death by his son, Jerry McCullah, parents Ben and Laura (Douglas) McCullah of Pioneer, brothers, Tom McCullah of Knoxville, James McCullah of LaFollette, sisters, Ann Ayers of Pioneer, and Phoebe Crutchfield of Jacksboro, TN. Survivors include wife, Lenore (Allen) McCullah, of Pioneer; daughters, Bonnie McCullah of Chattanooga, TN and Mamie Knott of Knoxville; grandchildren include Tracy van deVate, Grant Kitts, Shannon Kitts, Zachary Kitts, Scarlett Kitts, Michael Knott, David Knott and their spouses; brothers, Ed McCullah of Pioneer, Bill McCullah, and Earl McCullah both of LaFollette; sisters, Idessa Powell and Essie Ayers both of LaFollette and Naomi Payne of Greenville, SC. Luther also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services 2:00 P.M. Sunday at Walters Chapel with Rev. Delmus Bruce officiating. Interment at the Melvin Cemetery in Pioneer, TN. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 P.M. Sunday prior to services at Walters Funeral Home. WILLOUGHBY - age 58 years & 7 months, of LaFollette, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, February 18, 2005, She was a member of Forks Grove Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents Pernie & Pearl McNeeley Willoughby; brother David Willoughby; two infant brothers and one infant sister. Survivors: daughter: Michelle Owens Wilhoit; granddaughters: Hope and Sugar Wilhoit, all of Jacksboro; sisters & brothers-in-law: Juanita & Roy Johnson, Morristown, Fayetta & Bill Clawson, Patricia & Ronnie Poston, Betty Jo Willoughby, all of LaFollette; several nieces & nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
