    1. More on Thomas Harvey Messamore

    3. I have some additional information to add concerning Thomas Harvey Messamore. I have completed a transcription of his Civil War pension papers. I previously reported that a daughter Sarah Elizabeth Messamore was born 13 Apr 1869 and died 22 Jun 1872. Upon further review and reflection, I believe that the 22 Jun 1872 is a birth date of another child, one whose name is undecipherable in Thomas's Civil War service papers. Therefore, the question of why Sarah Elizabeth Messamore was not listed in the 1870 census can probably be answered by proposing that she died in infancy before the 1870 census was taken. Remember that Sarah Elizabeth's mother died on 20 May 1869. So I think that both mother and daughter died shortly after the daughter was born. With that in mind, here first is my transcription of Thomas Civil War pension papers. It is followed by a list of his wives and children, based on census data, marriage records, and his Civil War pension papers. Roscoe Messamore, May 10, 1895" in the pension papers was known as Roscoe Conklin Messamore to his descendants, and that I have found other records for him that list his name as Thomas. Hence, I believe his full name was Thomas Roscoe Conklin Messamore. Similarly, I believe that the person listed as "Thomas R.C. Messamore, Jul 30, 1886 (dead)" was another son also named Thomas Roscoe Conklin Messamore. The two Thomas Roscoe Conklin Messamores were half-brothers.)
