From the Knoxville News Sentinel 5 Feb 2005 AUSTIN, ARTHUR D. - age 73 formerly of Lake City, TN BRIGGS, ROBERT BEECHER-l CLAPIE, LOIS SILLS - was a long time Oak Ridge resident CLOTFELTER, JOHN - age 90, of LaFollette, JONES, MR. RONALD - age 54, of Scott County, formerly of Glenmary, MANCE, DOROTHY DICKENSON - Tulsa, Okla., formerly of Oak Ridge, AUSTIN, ARTHUR D. - age 73 formerly of Lake City, TN passed away Sunday night January 30, 2005 surrounded by his loving sisters & brother at Ormond Beach Memorial Hospital Florida. Preceded in death by his parents Oscar & Bertha Austin and sister Naomia Childs. Survivors: brothers Frank (Buck) & Carl Austin; sisters Dean Baer, Kathleen Shook, Annie Hembree & Dot Wilson; several nieces & nephews. BRIGGS, ROBERT BEECHER-loving husband and father passed away at home in Oak Ridge, TN on February 4, 2005. He was born November 12, 1918 in Detroit, MI to parents William L. and Mildred Knight Briggs. He first came to Oak Ridge in 1943 and worked for ORNL, as well as the Atomic Energy Commission reactor licensing agency, until his retirement in 1975. For the last decade, he enjoyed working as an Our Favorite Carpenter with Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Edna H. Briggs; son and daughter-in-law, David and Diane Briggs of Chattanooga, TN; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and John Stinson of Crossville, TN, Carolyn and Steven Johnson of Pearl, MS; grandchildren, Laura Hibbs and Scott Briggs of Chattanooga, Doug Stinson of Denver, CO, and Greg Stinson of Charlotte, NC, Peter Johnson of Pearl, MS and Jeremy Mitchell of Columbia, MS. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, February 6, 2005 at First United Methodist Church, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge with Rev. Bill Mooney officiating. The family will welcome friends from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. followed by the service in the chapel. Memorials are requested to be made to Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County, P. O. CLAPIE, LOIS SILLS - was a long time Oak Ridge resident from 1947 until 2003 when she moved to assisted living in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Previously she was an active bowler and participated in many activities at the Senior Center on a regular basis. She was a member of Eastern Star and West Village Christian Church. She was employed at K-25 Security Department until her retirement in 1962. She was the widow of Carl Clapie who was very active in the Masonic Lodge until his death in 1987. Mrs. Clapie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Roger Ward; a son, Carl Sills; a granddaughter, Cheryl Ward; a grandson, Dennis Sills; a brother, Ralph McCuistion; a step- son, Richard Clapie; six step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 6, at 2 PM at Weatherford Mortuary. The Rev. Don Bullock, retired minister at West Village Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens immediately following the services. He was a retired Stone mason and Farmer. Member of the House of Prayer & Praise in LaFollette. He resided at home with his granddaughter & husband Mary & Donald Wilson for the past 6 Years. Preceded in death by wife Kathern McCulley Clotfelter, son John Harrison Clotfelter, daughter Louise Wright, parents Bill & Julia Clotfelter, brothers Lee, Roy, Elbert & Delbert Clotfelter, sisters Essie Clotfelter, Martha Clotfelter & Pearl Paul. He was a great loving father & grandfather and was loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by all. Medical Center of Knoxville. He worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad with 34 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Nettie Ann Jeffers Jones; grandparents, Tom and Drucendy Jeffers, Josh and Sarah Jones; sisters, Nola Jane Vihlen, Christine Warren, Helen Bernice(infant), Gertrude(infant); brothers, Earl and Earnest Hughes (infant). She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Fred and Barbara of Arlington, Texas; and her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Bob Scroggs of Bixby, Okla.; also 5 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
