    3. Clinton Courier July 27,1978 Retired New River Miner Dies Jimmie Carroll,72 of Highway 116,Briceville Rt.1,died at 3:50 a.m. last Thursday at Oak Ridge Hospital of a lung ailment. He was a retired New River area miner and member of United Miner Workers of America.Carroll was a native of the Briceville area and enjoyed gardening and fishing.Survivors include two daughters,Mrs.Luke (Christine) Cox of Oliver Springs and Mrs.Sharon Kay Williams of Moline,Ill.,seven sons, Clifford Carroll of Oelwein,Iowa, Andy Carroll of Bedford,Ohio,Laymon Carroll of Moline,Ed Ruddy, Emery and Dennis Carroll of Briceville Rt.1, two sisters, Mrs.Cordella Brown of Briceville Rt.1,and Mrs. Guy(Winfrey) Lively of Lake City,a half brother, Dewey Kennedy of Duff, 25 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.Funeral services were held Saturday at Grave Hill Baptist Church with the Rev.Edwin Phillips and the Rev.Carvin Phillips officiating.Burial was in church cemetery. Clinton Courier July 27,1978 Ex-Head Of Town Water Service Dies Paul William Parks,55, of Meadow St.,LAke City,died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake City Hospital. He served as superintendent of the Town Of Lake City water department for 17 years until he retired two years ago. In earlier years he worked for Chrysler Corp.in Detroit.Parks was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Beech Grove Church.He was a native of of Lake City and the son of the late Mr.and Mrs.William Parks.Survivors include his wife, Mrs.Juanita Childs Parks, two daughters, Mrs.Brenda Madison and Miss.Melissa Parks of Lake City,a son,Steve Parks of Coalfield, four grandchildren, two sisters,Mrs.Annette Greene of Niles,Ohio and Mrs.Ruth Biggs of Bay City,Miss.,and a brother,Carl Parks of Lake City.Funeral services were held Tuesday at Beech Grove Baptist Church with the Rev,Kenneth Seeber and the Rev.Ron Clay officiating.Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Clinton Courier July 27,1978 Man Drown In Grainger County Lake Glen Albert Bailey,21 of Hickory Valley Rd.,Heiskell Rt.1,Died Saturday night in Grainger County of accidental drowning while swimming in Cherokee Lake at Wani Village Campground,about five miles south of Rutledge. The victim went under in about eight feet of water,and bystanders recovered the body,Earl Coamerson Grainger County sherif said.Bailey and his wife,Patricia,who survives were campingand she had gone to a grocery when the mishap had occurred,the sheriff said.Bailey was a carpenter employed by Hickory Star Boat Dock in Union County.He was a native of Heiskell Rt.1 and the son of Mr.and Mrs.Plez A.Bailey who also survive.Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs.Judy Key,Miss.Peggy Bailey and Miss.Darlene Bailey of Heiskell Rt.1,and five brothers,Hobert Bailey of Knoxville, Willie Bailey,Larry Bailey,David Bailey,Rickey Bailey and Micheal Bailey of Heiskell Rt.1.Funeral services were held Tuesday at Beeler Chapel Church in Grainger County with the Rev.J.B.Woods and the Rev.Clyde Gray officiating. He was pastor of Friendly Welcome Baptist Church in Frost Bottom community near Oliver Springs. He was an Army veteran of World War II.Survivors include his wife,Mrs.Willie Jean Johnson,two daughters, Mrs.Dewey (Brenda) Townsend,Mrs.Roy (Cheryl) Cox of Harriman Rt.2, six sisters,Mrs.Jim (Jeanette) Brock, Mrs.Cecil (Celestia) Butler and Mrs.Gene (Mary) Strickland of Oliver Springs, Mrs.Mack (Essie) Strickland of Oakdale, Mrs.Arnold (Mildred) Clark of Kingston and Mrs.Jack (Betty) McKinney of Marietta,Ga. ,a brother, Bill Johnson of Oakdale, and two grandchildren.Funeral services were held Saturday at Friendly Welcome Baptist Church with the Rev.Bill Brewster officiating.Burial was in Mt.Pisgah Cemetery near Oliver Springs. Laundry of Oak Ridge.Mrs.McCoy was a native of Greene County and resident of Clinton area for several years.Her husband,Cecil,died several years ago. She was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church of Greene County and enjoyed gardening,sewing and quilting. Survivors include seven daughters,Mrs.Lewis (Lola) Allen of Pennigton,Gap,Va.,Mrs.Alex (Bernice) Shaw of Johnson City, Mrs.Lillian Edwards of Dayton,Ohio,Mrs.Naomi Elrod of Clinton,Rt.5,Mrs.Warren(Dorothy) Harrell of Grandview,Mo., Mrs.Joe(Jean)Barnette of Clinton,and Mrs.Charles (Nadine) Hampton of Tallahassee,Fla, two sons, Emertt E.McCoy of Newport News,Va.,and Rudolph McCoy of Toledo,Ohio, 41 grandchildren,42 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, two sisters, Mrs.Alta McCoy and Mrs.Alpha Monroe of Greenville, and three brothers, Rev.Perry McCoy and Fay McCoy of Greenville, and Earl McCoy of Detroit.Funeral services are to be held at 2p.m. Thursday (today) at Gethsemane United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery. He was a coal miner and member of the United Mine Worker of America(UMWA).Harmon was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.He was a native of Lake City and the son of the late William Henry and Mille Fritts Harmon. Survivors include his wife,Mrs.Bessie Isabell Harmon,two daughters, Mrs.Frank (Betty) Hawkins of McMinnville, and Mrs.Robert (Shirley) Hug of Ontario,Calif.,four sons, William W.Harmon of Toledo,Ohio.,Jack Harmon of Detroit, Woodrow Harmon of Pearl,Miss.,and Roy Harmon of Lake City Rt.1, four sisters,Mrs.Verlie Alma Isabell of Bolair,W.Va. Burris Are Held Funeral services were held Saturday at Clinton First Baptist Church for William Henry (Bill) Burris,67, of U.S. Highway 25-W,South Clinton.He died May 10 at Oak Ridge Hospital of a heart attack. He was a saleman and late manager at Valley Pontiac-AMC Jeep,Inc.of Oak Ridge,for whom he worked for 19 years.For 26 years he was employed at Magnet Mills in Clinton. Burris was a member of Clinton First Baptist Church and the South Clinton Lions Club,which he served as its first president.He was a native of Junction City,Kan.and lived in Lake City area before moving to South Clinton.Survivors include his wife,Mrs.Edith Simpson Burris, two daughters, Mrs.Carl(Pat) Hair of Oak Ridge and Mrs.Robert (Snookie) Foster of Frankford,ILL.four sisters,Mrs.Grace Ellington of Junction City, Mrs.Elizabeth Perkey of Fresno,Calif.,Mrs.Lillie DeChant of Tucson,Ariz. and Mrs.Helen Patt of Houston,Tex., six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.The Rev.Samuel D.Dean and the Rev.Hayward Highfill officated at the services.Burial was in Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens. Clinton Courier May 18,1978 Ex-Norris Woman Dies In Knoxville Mrs.Helen Miller Cole,59, of Lonas Rd,Knoxville,died at 12:30 p.m.Friday at her home of a heart attack. She was a native of Clinton Rt.1 and the daughter of the late Mike and Ann Miller.Mrs.Cole lived in Norris until she moved to Knoxville 20 years ago.She was a member of Island Home Baptist Church in Knoxville. Survivors include her husband,Kenneth W.Cole,a daughter,Mrs.Karen Moore of Hixson,two grandchildren, two sisters,Mrs.Clara Bargloff of Norris and Mrs.Ophia Fritts of Heiskell Rt1,and three brothers,Paul R.Miller of Lafollette,L.D.Miller of Norris and Bob C.Miller of Nashville.Graveside funeral services were held Monday at Norris Memorial Gardens with the Rev.Larry Foust officiating.
