A native of Fort Mountain,he was a member of the Omega Masonic Lodge 536 F&AM,and a member of Beech Park Baptist Church,where he served on the Trustee Committee.Mr.Phillips worked 21 years as a coal miner with Fork Mountain Coal Company and Winrock Coal Company,before retirement.He also was a carpenter.Mr.Phillips was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Mr.Phillips was preceded in death by his parents George and Laney Jones Phillips,a brother,Carvin Phillips,and sister,Georgie Disney.
